I think that this was the funniest Amos N' Andy show that I have yet seen. Undertaker and lawyer---a man of many talents is A. J. Calhoun.

The dialigue was superb done by the excellent writers, I am sure. As many A&A shows as I have seen this was the first time for this episode. My eyes are still wet from laughing so much. Hope it plays again.

Thank you for posting this delightful classic. It was one of the funniest episodes of the series. For a change, Spencer got a chance to show off his talents. It's a shame that Lillian Randolph and Millie Bruce, the ladies who played Madame Queen and Brenda, went uncredited at the end. I've heard that if the actors receive a mention in the credits, they're paid more the union scale. The ladies more than earned their money with their fine performances.

I remember when my parents introduced me to this show when I was young. I laughed as hard as they did! And when my parents when to the television museum in NYC, they played Amos n Andy and laughed so hard and loud, they got other patrons to watch with them. Such a great show and I am glad they went with Black actors portraying the best in Black people and not making them act like fools. A great show!!! And this is one of my favorite episodes.

No option whereby they could still be paid , eat, pay rent, etc. These needs should trump any image concerns blk or white people had about our race .

@@deborahsimmons3370 Iam old enough to remember this show as a child , I personally never associated it with a poor image of black people , it was humour . The Character that Tim Moore played the Kingfish was the one that made the show . Amos the Taxi Driver was smart , polite and his narration of everything was articulate and informed . I thought his Character overall put a favourable light on a Black Man . Andy seemed a little slow compared to Kingfish , but was always patient and polite and a Gentlemen . He also appeared as someone you wouldn't want to anger . Those were the impressions I got as a child growing up . Growing up I was a Cleveland Browns fan and listened to games on the Radio when Jimmy Brown was a Rookie . The announcers call of the game I could see him running down the field . He was my hero , I didn't know he was a Blackman , nor would have I cared . I guess the loss of child like innocence is what bothers me most .

I love the Amos And Andy Show! It's a shame that our own ( NAACP) black people had this show taken off the air back in the 1950's😢

I believe this show could have gone on for another couple of years. Hattie McDaniel said it is better to play the role of a maid for 700 dollars a week than be one of 40 dollars a week. All of the actors in this show were so talented and many educated. Jester Hairston, who played Henry Van Porter and as Leroy, was a graduate of the Juliard School of Music in New York. These people were talented! What was the difference between Sanford and Son and Amos n Andy and even Good Times? This was clean comedy that showed Blacks as doctors, lawyers, judges, policemen and other professionals. The NAACP screwed it up for these fine actors and possibly other shows waiting in the wings with a Black cast. Hattie McDaniel was right and I would have loved to have met these folks.

Many people had a very different attitude back then of black people. to SOME white people it gave an impression of black people as lazy, ignorant, stupid etc. I do not mean to be insulting. that is not the attitude of decent people now. The program was very funny then and to me it is still very funny. as I said earlier , no violence, no profanity, no nudity, In my opinion the program is much better than new programs on the aire now. I wish a similar program could be resurrected again.

I was familiar with most of the Amos n Andy episodes from seeing them when I was a kid, but this one was new to me. Some of the dialog about women in this episode was brutal, but comical, too. The comedy still holds up well.

I grew up in a generation that heard nothing but negative things about this show as far as how it portrayed black people. Now that I've watched it as an older mature black man I think that the bad rap that its gotten is absolutely unwarranted!! I also think its VERY disrespectful to the black actors that paved the way to label this show anything other than "SIGNIFICANT." This is really brilliant comedy. Brilliantly written and brilliantly played out by the actors. It aligned with the times. Its waaaaaay funnier than the majority of the comedy that is on today. This show is funny as hell aside from all the controversy.

The young girl became the wife of Sugar Ray Robinson , the great boxer . The young girls mother , Madam Queen , was played by Lilian Randolph . A much better looking woman and a much better actress than her sister Amanda Randolph who played Kingfish's mother in law .

I was thinking the same thing , Kingfish was the real star of the show. However, all of them were phenomenal . I especially loved Calhoun too. He was so unique! with such a range of talent not usually seen.

Amos was a main character in the show's early years, then the popularity of The Kingfish caused Amos to be regualted in the background by the time of the TV show in 1951.

When the show came out on radio in 1928, the only two characters were Amos and Andy. Later, Amos got married so he couldn’t be around so much, and the Kingfish was introduced. They never changed the title because over 40 million radio fans were familiar with “Amos and Andy” as the name of the show.
