great videos digging into the amouage brand ... people need to stop worrying about reformulations imo ... a company will never reformulate anything that drastically changes a smell or performance, especially with their classics. again great video!

100% true- If these fragrances stayed the exact same then people would accuse Amouage of using synthetics and fillers to maintain consistency, nothing using that many natural ingredients will remain that exact same from batch to batch! Single malt, single cask scotch and single barrel bourbon are the same way. Hearing people complain and just start slapping (reformulated) to anything they don't like or has changed to them personally is wild. Especially comparing new batches just released to bottles that may be 2-5 years old, as age changes fragrances often times for the better if kept correctly. Amouage have done remarkable at keeping things very close for a natural product.

There are definitely more facets to the story of the idea of fragrance reformulation than many people consider. I've been collecting for a long time, and I've become aware of a lot of the things you spoke about here: oaknoss used to be one of ny favorite notes! I understand completely when ingredients are no longer available and compositions need to change for reasons that are outside the control of the fragrance Houses. I appreciate you making this effort to inform your viewers about many valid reasons our favorites can change over time. This is an important video because people definitely get twisted up into the world of conspiracy theories and batch code obsessions. As a long time enthusiast, I agree with everything you said in this video,. You made very valid points about why and how fragrances can change: and your points can help people understand. I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention that in addition to all the legit reasons you gave for fragrances to change over time, It is also possible and it does happen that Houses simply change formulations for profit. Maybe that didn't need to get mentioned because there are so many people up in arms about it and they just needed to see the other sides to the story and possibly begin to understand that that's not the only reason reformulation happens. I appreciate your adding your sense and reason to the equation. I wonder if you're aware that reformulation also happens for profit deliberately- since you did not list that here among the reasons it occurs. Maybe you chose not to mention this purposefully, and maybe you're even fortunate enough not to be convinced that, in addition to the reasons you describe, reformulation strictly for profit is a very real occurrence.

Oh yes indeed, I am aware of the profit driven vampires; personally, I have not found that to be the case with the Amouage fragrances I have experienced between the original first launched batches and new batches. This is why I did not mention it. I will certainly take your word on Reflection Man as I never owned the original, just smelled it compared to some of the new samples I got and then decided to buy the 45 extrait which I personally prefer due to the addition of some heavier notes like tonka, frankincense and opoponax along with some other notes they added. I did smell my friends old Reflection man and compared to my new samples they did smell slightly more floral and powder like compared to his which seemed woodier, was that your experience as well? The funny thing is with Amouage; if they stayed perfectly consistent with every batch then people would be screaming they are using synthetics to keep consistent, it seems no matter what a company does they cannot win. I find this to be a common issue with cigars, single barrel bourbon and single cask single malt scotch as well. They are all similar in taste and flavor profile but when working with natural materials; you will always have variations, sometimes for the worse and sometimes for the better depending on who you ask. Very much appreciate your input on the channel and more particularly with Reflection Man as I did not personally own the original to compare in great detail.

And I agree that Amouage seems to be good about keeping consistent with their fragrance line. Only my signature: Reflection- has changed considerably since 2009 when I started going through samples of it after going crazy for it. Finally got my first bottle in 2011. You said you did notice a change in the fragrance. My nose definitely detects an increasing dilution in Reflection now with fixatives like ambroxan, iso e super, galaxolide, etc being added to mask the dilution. Those fixatives do smell "woody", but I don't really like the smell of them and since they increase longevity, they form a large part of the base and are almost all that's left a lot of the time in the dry down. Of course I appreciate performance and longevity, but I don't want my dry downs to just be fixative aromachemicals! At least it seems like this is the only fragrance Amouage is "cheating" with. Maybe it is supply issues or other possibilities you discussed. 7:36

Yes sir, I try to respond to everyone. Between having almost 100 videos on KZbin now and the seemingly broken notification system for creators, I find myself seeing comments on old videos I never was notified about. More to your point, there could be a multitude of different things going on causing different batch variations between natural materials not being the exact same from suppliers, as well as "advancements" and different processes in creating the fragrance itself. I personally feel a big part of all these changes is also less time aging them in large vats before bottling due to increased demand; this can cause issues and color changes along with the other elements we mentioned above playing a factor. @@Jason-Moon

Again, nice and simple explanation buddy! For me, Beach Hut Man feels kinda like a minty tomato drink and yet classic fougere, agree with you, it’s not always tropical or too fresh marine. As for Sunshine Man, despite the name suggesting dry summers, I see it more as a cozy winter scent with the lavender and orange brandy vibe. Can’t agree more with people saying Sunshine Man is the fragrance best for Summer 😂

Absolutely! Glad you got Bracken before the insane secondary market price hikes occur. I've seen Bracken and Sunshine man going for $400-500 on eBay now 😂 I just had a chance a few months ago to buy Bracken and sunshine for around $190-200. I passed on those for Royal Tobacco and Interlude 53.

@@universalfragrance Man, seriously? I can't justify dropping $400 on a 100ml bottle of Bracken Man, and that's just the EDP 😂. It lasts long on the skin, but it's not a powerhouse like Interlude or Silver Oud. Back in 2018, I lucked out and snagged a brand-new 100mL Bracken Man for just $126. Probably got a deal because it wasn't as popular, maybe due to that classic old man scent, and you know, back when everyone was all about those blue fragrances with tons of ambroxans. Still, gotta admit, the scent itself is pretty darn modern and very photorealistic green natural.

@@frian3099 Oh yes, my original batch of Bond no.9 Riverside Drive was going for $1200 full; although I’m not sure if anyone actually paid that, I hope not lol. I did like Bracken just didn’t love it; I really enjoyed the clove and cinnamon with the clean and dry woods with the natural oak moss note!

Initially wanted to grab Jubilation XXV at that time (which I currently have), but that one's rarely on sale, you know? And yeah, Bracken isn't a top pick for me either, not a favorite, just pretty ordinary-fougere-classic gentlemen scent, but not bad

I’m hearing oregano, cumin and mint as notes in some of these fragrances and i don’t knowwww Dale (hope I spelled your name right)…Im not a fan of mint in any form BUT I’m a firm believer in having an open mind and trying things once so I’m gonna try to smell this just to see if I’m a fan.

Yes! You got it right! Thankfully the heart and base notes are so strong in Amouage those ingredients you listed are added for depth and you cannot smell them as heavy as you would think. Still unique and recognizable. Samples are recommended for sure hahaha

Recently got this from their main website, the scent is wise but... that thing is too weak compared to what I heard from people + even the sprayer leaks a bit. I am shocked because this is literally my first amouage fragrance.

No, thankfully I didn’t hurt myself. I have eczema and this time of year when it gets cold and dry it always flairs up then goes away after a while.
