Serendipity! No, I am not almost done catching up on your wonderful videos, but I did see that this video posted and since it was my SOTD today-I had to watch! LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE the way you talked about this being a hallucinogenic trip experience because back in the day I had me quite a few shamanic spirit quests with the aid of "sacred medicines" and this perfume does have an amazingly intense opening I love (absinthe junkie here LOL) followed by that soft velveteen lavender smudged with olibanum. Then that superbly dark mysterious dry-down that, although it is quite close to the skin and nowhere near the "beast mode" of many Amouage fragrances, that makes it yet again something utterly unique; not just among the House of Amouage releases but among ANY perfume releases. And, like you, I have fragrances that harken back to the twenties and thirties (even have a couple from the fifties and sixties. I concur that this was an amazing "coming out" ball for Ms. Vinchon-Spehner. So glad I opted for the larger 8mL decant and not just a 2mL sample because I would have gone through that in like 2 days! I am so glad I found your channel and subscribed. Sure, I always have known of Amouage but was predominately more of a natural perfume lover who favored the indie/artisan type of guy. I am so glad I am now going back to the House; but am also equivocally sad that Christopher Chong is gone (yet never forgotten!). I will just have to amuse and placate myself with collecting wearing and experiencing the "old school" releases and leave Boundless, Enclave, Material and the like to the young 'uns. smell swell & be well! xox PS: For someone who has never done L.S.D., you sure have a pretty damn good understanding of how it works and what it is like! No one like you just like there is nothing like Memoir Man... Hall of Fame indeed!

Memoir man is truly a unique green scent, the lavender adds a unique twist to the weird top notes to balance it out. Memoir and jubilation XXV imo do the best job in highlighting the frankincense dna of the house. Memoir man has a special place in my journey thus far, 100% backup bottle worthy.

Great review, as always Ramsey! My first experience with this fragrance goes back like 2 weeks ago when I purchased 5ml decant (as well as Overture, Jubilation XXV and Journey Man). Right after the first spray I thought "OK, not for me" and immediatelly decided to sell the decant together with Journey Man which I also did not like. Then the night before I shipped the decants to their new owner I decided to give it one more chance and suddenly it clicked and I really enjoyed it. Sadly the sample was already sold so I can't do any more testing but I think I will get a bottle as soon as I will see some reasonable price. Overture was a love at the first sniff as well as Jubilation XXV, both now on my to buy list also. This was the last time I did the same mistake of not testing the fragrance enough before making a decission. Lesson learned. PS: with the description like this I'm now wondering how many people who like Memoir Man will be tempted to try LSD :D

This is on of my favorite from a Amouage. Actually the opening of memoir smells similar to an old market in Kuwait that sells spices and herbs and dried fruit. The opening is addictive for me.

Great review, Ramsey. I blind-bought Memoir Man several months ago because of your enthusiasm and description. Unfortunately, my experience with the modern bottle I got is not the same as yours. I've worn it several times. I don't know if it's due to reformulation, but, to my nose, the juice in my bottle is very faint even at initial spray, doesn't project, and turns into a barely perceptible skin scent within a couple hours. I'm really disappointed. I'd like to compare what I have to a vintage bottle.

Grabbed a full bottle and got samples of the other two which I also loved (great job by Eugene). I really enjoy Antoine Lie’s work and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite perfumers. Des Cendres does remind me of Amouage Memoir Man. It’s fantastic as well.

This was my first ever Amouage (and a blind-buy) and didn't care much for it. I like green fragrances, but the green here is kind of sickening to me (maybe the wormwood.) Anyway, about 9 years later, I now have 46 Amouage bottles and it's still my least favorite. 😂

This was one of the Amouage samples I got in recently. Memoir Man triggered a memory of when I was a kid. My mother, who owns her own real-estate business (still going strong to this day), brought me to a house that was on the market. The basement had a private bar that had been built and used heavily by the house's former owner. It was damp and dank in there, with that dirty, earthy scent that all old basements seem to have, mingling with the smell of countless cigars this man had smoked throughout his life. The bar itself smelled of beer and spirits. You could tell that the old man and his buddies used to hang out down there constantly, smoking, drinking, playing cards, and likely reminiscing of their younger years. Memoir Man smells a lot like that basement... I think this is one I might have to get used to over time. 😆

Hello Friend how are you? Without a doubt, my favorite from the Amouage house. I am a fan of green notes in perfumery, starting with vetiver. This fragrance has it all, from the beginning with that explosion of green notes everywhere, that freshness at the beginning is impressive, but then that transformation that the fragrance undergoes as time passes and it becomes dark and smoky, It is simply masterful. Wormwood is actually the absinthe note you’re getting there. It’s the prime ingredient in absinthe and why absinthe tastes the way it does. Memoir is good I sampled it awhile ago and need to get a bottle

Amazingly described this one Rams, sampled this one a few days ago, on my skin it is a subtle, dark green vegetal vibe without being medicinal outright, like the opening, the perfume is subdued, but persistant on my skin, the dry down is very Ashy...needs more testing, artistic fragrance indeed 🔥👍🏻

when i smell memoir, i get the imagery of descending into an old dark but finished basement (with hardwood paneling and a lot of other wood decoration giving off an old wood smell). far down a hallway there's a doorway that you can see candlelight flickering from. you walk down the hall and enter the room. there's an old heavy wooden desk worn from age and use, and on top is a scented candle burning that's giving off a little smoke (the frankincense probably). next to the candle, there's an old dusty bottle of absinthe, uncorked and giving off the smell of the wormwood and anise like facets. and then to finish the picture, between the candle and the bottle of absinthe is a leatherbound old book, dusty and cobwebbed where you can literally smell that musty (but strangely not unpleasant) odor of old paper from the pages. weird how people hate this though, i think this actually smells VERY nice and pleasing to other people around me.

RAM!! I love how you describe memoir I have memoir woman, there are differences between memoir mam and memoir woman but spectacular all the same! I was able to get memoir woman, the oldest version I could! Three months ago it was completely new and closed from a store that was eliminating stock, due to closure and at a very good price. amouage... is my number one in perfumery, the prince's amouage...)) :-) then I choose russian adams as second, and as third papillon artisans perfumes my dear and beloved liz moore... shalom and a big hug.

I was not impressed with memoir when I first smelled it- I think because I smelled like 10 other amouage that day, making this one seem weak. I don't get why some people consider this to be a challenging fragrance. It's unique but it really mostly settles into a nice woody green amber as far as the general smell. I think this is way more wearable than most people think... Or maybe it's just easier to pull off here in the Pacific Northwest... Haha My vibe for this one is that it is kind of like the fragrance of the byronic hero. Not just because of the name, memoir, but it really is literary and evokes forests and mansions and enchantment. The lavender, tobacco, leather and smoky qualities evoke ideas of masculinity kind of as a classic literary quality too, like an homage and not a parody or anything.... It's just one of the ultimate melanges, karine vinchon would be remembered as brilliant just for this one fragrance.

I do my best to rotate fragrances and give each one time in the spotlight, but like you, this (and Bracken Man) have massive dents. Memoir man would be the fragrance that best fits me. Mint, incense and wormwood being in the top five notes I like. There’s not many wormwood fragrances I know of unfortunately…

I would say this smells so dawn in Borneo rainforest with birds of paradise and all that wet greens . This is one that i do respect and would not layer it 💚... Sadly the Crimson Rock my last Amouage, is just a cinnamon topping for my coffee and leather fragrance.🤭

You’ve got a pre magnetic cap version of Memoir I can see a ring around the base where the cap would snap into place. If it was magnetic it would have a round metal base where the atomizer meets the glass. I bought a vintage tester of Interlude during COVID from a discounter and it looks exactly like that with the same box. There should be a serial number somewhere on the back. Mine was low thousands. It smells exactly the same to a newer batch from 2 years ago. The reason I think they changed from snap cap to magnetic was the snap cap puts unneeded stress on the area where the glass meets the metal and mine unfortunately broke I was able to decant the juice into another atomizer bottle thankfully.

Insignia is the only one worth sampling. If this was released by Amouage during Chong's reign it would up there with Dia Man. The current offerings by Amouage are sub-standard. It feels like Renaud Salmon is only capable of re-hashing the glory days. He doesn't have passion, knowledge and depth to re-ignite Amouage.
