Great video! I love the "real world" Dyno tests and will be doing more of these in the future myself and showing the difference between the AD-1 and resistive loads vs. AMM-1 and reactive loads. The music test with speakers is my favorite as it shows the exact wattage your speakers are seeing.

This is about right. I owned a 2500.1D for a few years there for a 15" kicker cvx. I thought it was 'alright' until I plugged a voltmeter up to it. After the math, it averaged around 500w rms at 2 ohms. Rated at 1875 at 2ohms. Not even close. NOW! For 100$, when I moved it to my 2nd work car, it was perfect for 2 12" sonys. Seems like rockville amps, as generic sounding as they are, are great cheap amps if you look at the CEA ratings.

Thanks for this test--this is exactly what I was looking for after considering this amp on Amazon. They're probably rating these POS amps based on a 24 volt load. There's just no other way the math works, even if the amps operated at 100% efficiency, which obviously is impossible.

I have the same amp unfortunately and I was a bit skeptical at first before I bought it, but I was like oh well, what the hell. A supposedly 3,000 watt monoblock amp that someone was selling for $100...why not? Anyway. I do and I don't regret buying it. I regret buying it for the obvious reason and I don't regret buying it because I learned from making a mistake. I absolutely love Planet Audio from the early 2000s. Matter than fact, I have a Z-12 Zetar series that I've owned since I was 21 and I'm now 33. Anyway. The older Planet Audio products were alot better back in the day compared to what they turned out to be now. I blame it all on the law suit they went through back in 07' or so. Now that they are with boss and SSL, I hate what they have become and I hate boss and SSL with a passion. The only series that are worth anything from Planet Audio is any of the Big Bang amps or subs.

why didn't you show what you had gains & bass boost etc set to? these can factor in quite a bit as you know and make it clip. Also why not do a real test with a clamp meter eh? @NHSrb269 жыл бұрын
A clamp meter is nowhere near an accurate test. The AD-1 and the AMM-1 have built in O-scopes that will show you when it's clipping so you can set the gains. This is a legit test

If his "Real World" woofers are in a sealed enclosure then the box rise in impedance could be as high as 10-20ohms! You HAVE to use a Resistive load to test an amp, even though in the real world you ARE gonna see serious variances, that's what separates the men from the boys - knowing how to get the most from your system - this from the 1st guy to get a DB DRag world record with Kicker L7s. The Planet Audio 3000d is fused for 60 amp current draw so maximum power consumption would be about 864 watts (60a x14.4v) out of those 864 watts only 475 watts are being turned into musical power, that leaves an efficiency of 55%. A class D amplifier operating with only 55% efficiency is incredibly bad for any class d amp, so bad it makes me question the test parameters. Cheap amp or not, this thing should be able to break 500 watts rms..

While I appreciate you including that disclaimer, it's tough to ever compare numbers with a reactive load and fluctuating power supply vs a lab power supply and resistive load. And since the manufacturer rates using lab PS and resistive loads, that's kinda what we have to use so we can compare apples to apples. If you used your method on many amplifiers I'm betting they'd fall short of their rated power. That said, we all know damn well this wouldn't even do half rated. lol Good work.

Really odd an amplifier with the same design as some other boards with plenty of capable fets and massive toroids wouldn't be able to create a few thousand watts. I've seen amplifiers like these beat the crap out of subwoofers, with obviously much more power than old American 300 watt amps did back in the 80s. I realize the current it's drawing dictates how much it can create, but something seems to be missing. How would a manufacturer give that many components and only create a tiny amount of wattage? I own several high end American made amps from the 90s and they create what they claim, but their components have nowhere near the capacity of a planet audio 5000.1d I have on my bench currently and by the logic of this l video the 5000 should only make around 500wrms. That's pretty weird. 😂
@jeanious20099 жыл бұрын
Looks like Planet Audio does not know the difference between MAX and RMS. MAX or Peak always equals 2x the RMS. So if they list a max number of 3k you should EXPECT to see a RMS of 1.5k NOT 2.1K. That right there just goes to show they don't even know what the fuck they are doing. To top it off the manual states 2 x 30amp fuses..so if that is true then the amplifier is really only capable of 600watts before those fuses pop wide OPEN!
@bahnspl9 жыл бұрын
+jeanious2009 This isn't quite correct my friend.... First off I don't believe there is any actual rule on max vs rms ratio...... That's just a typical rule of thumb from experience type deal... As far as the fuse popping this is incorrect as well.. Generally fuses will handle 125 percent load for long periods of time.. There is a PDF on littlefuse's website how long you can expect their fuses to last at different loads vs rated... But if you take 60 amps x14 volts x 1.25 (125 percent).. it is over 1000rms... Good example is the newer audiopipe 1500's.. They bench at over 1500 rms certified at 1 percent.. yet they come with 100 amp fuse .. I haven't seen one blown under proper use yet.
@jeanious20099 жыл бұрын
They are called datasheets and they handle more than 200x their rated power on certain series of fuses for a certain amount of time (milliseconds).
@bahnspl9 жыл бұрын
jeanious2009 That is only partially correct... Granted certain series handle more than others...... They all handle a large amount more for the milliseconds you stated... Plus there is a line between the lets say 200 x(though I don't believe it is this high) and the 1x... It doesn't instantly go to milliseconds.. Depending on the fuse it may look something like this... 125 percent .. 4 hours... 150 percent 1... 200 percent 10 mins.. 250 percent 30 seconds .. 300 percent 3 . Or something to that effect... Not only this.. But when they sell an amp.. The min impedance rating is typically min. wired... Not resistive .. So the amp may actually do rated power on less fusing .. Since the box imp. rise keeps the load from ever reaching rms power, the fuses are not in danger of blowing. Yet when they put their rms power rating, they rate it at the resistive 1 ohm load... So they sell you something that isn't meant to run at the ohm the power is rated at... Even companies such as RF do this
@jeanious20099 жыл бұрын
There are over a thousand different fuses....so of course they are not all going to be the same, but to say that they can handle 125x over a certain amount of time is the same as me saying the same fuse you are talking about can handle 200x in a certain amount of time (millisecond, or even micro). But am glad we are both on the same page regarding these over hyped rating that teens these days believe.
@bahnspl9 жыл бұрын
jeanious2009 Over a 1000 different brands... Prove it. You keep saying times vs percent.. which do you mean. Do you mean 125 x or 125 percent... 125 times is 12,500 percent over rated
