Ok here me out on this one. You have the schematic. The company is out of biz. (check for IP with a Lawyer) You, Jim, and Ape could team up with PCBway to do a Toads Amp!

@@temporarilyofflinemore open-source hardware is always welcome in amateur radio and retrocomputing. I’d love an episode on how to reverse-engineer circuit designs with the aid of a digital oscilloscope.

They don’t make them like that no more it seems, my big 2m amp 25 in 300 out, modern ones more like 25 in 80-150 out. They probably could even withstand a nuclear blast.

Good morning! Question: I’ve been watching Hobbyking a while for 2mm gold plated banana connectors but always sold out to use for antenna links. Would you have a recommendation on a high quality source?

Great video Steve. Brought back old memories. You should find Water Street, Binghamton, NY somewhere in that manual. VHF Engineering was founded where I grew up. The owner was a local ham and very active in the local clubs. They made an HT, repeaters, and other VHF equipment and accessories.

Their is a lot of them old amps around. some 30 to 50 MHZ . That one biased for SSB. and AM . you could hook a IC 705 to that .2 meter AM and SSB. may be fun. I would run that 50 % power on 2 meter FT8 . The VHF/UHF 2 band ones came out later . That amp has band pass filter so only 2 meters will pass thru and work. I got a small 2 meter/ 70CM amp that FM only . think it 75 watt with 5 watt in. has receive amp . and the LED changes color for 2 meters/ 70CM . auto band select. I got at local hamfest some years ago. cheap told me only worked on 1 band. I tried it, works both bands fine. I got several others but that the only 2 band VHF/UHF I got . The recieve amp is a LNA and works great. but not for Baofeng . it over loads the front end. If you are cold , I got a 2 meter TUBE amp. 1.5 KW SSB. 240V . makes lots of heat ! It gets the MFJ dummy load so hot you can cook eggs on it. and that 30 second keydown 1.5 KW FT8. 73

LOL... I keep holding my breath every time you keyed up, expecting some 35+ years old component to let the smoke out. For giggles and curiosity, I wonder what that amp would have looked like on a Tiny SA? No tiny surface mount stuff here... good old fashion stuff that old eyes (like mine) can work on without the aid of a soldering station equiped with an electron microscope. 😁

I'd start with dirty in likely dirty out, I saw no filters. I wonder if it would make a clean signal dirty. Next time!
