I have one word - MOSFET. There's just something about MOSFET amps that's great. Great for bass, great for guitar. My first MOSFET amp was the Marshall 3310 with two single 1x12 cabs as a mini stack and I loved it. Bring on the MOSFETs!

Ampegs are fucking sick for guitar. If you don't feel like getting a full-blown amp, check out the Catalinbread SFT pedal and you can get most of the way there with just about anything you stick it in front of.

Solid state tech isnt bad its just underdeveloped on the 6 string. There used to be way more killer solid states in the 70s,80,90s but then they just disappeared. Its clear bass amp tech has continued and solid state stuff there is quite good. I’d buy a solid state bass amp rn before a tube amp as a guitar player. You can use pedals and add high end, and you can control the volume more. They’re more versatile bc u can use it anywhere and even the cab construction of the combos is generous enough to make it sound more like a head and cab. The guitar as an instrument sits in particular frequencies so you don’t have to worry abt clashing with your archenemies bass player too.

The concept of a very light weight powerful amp is very attractive but the design calls out for a pretty complex circuit. It's a common thing to see a running 50 year old SVT tube head and I believe that's because they're simple. I wonder how long new switch mode amps will hold up.

And it's the Red one! Oh I love it!! I have kind of a thing for Red Tolex, especially the Red Vox amps! I also have a thing for Ampeg amps as well. I had a 1974 VT22 2x12 combo for a brief spell. Absolute BEAST of an amp, and weighed like 100 lbs. No Joke! Sadly it needed waay to much technical TLC to the point that it was becoming a real money pit, and was quite honestly just way too much freakin' amp for what I practically needed at the time. Oh, and did I mention it was super LOUD?! Like 130-140 db transients LOUD! Endangering small wildlife LOUD! With no master volume stock, but could take a master volume breakout box via the back panel (which I had). Thanks Rob. Now I'm heading off down a second hand gear internet wormhole just to try and find one of these beauties! Just recently got a huge bonus from my 9 to 5 warehouse job too! Coincidence? I think not. Ha Ha! Keep being awesome Rob! Much love & Respect my dude. Stay happy, safe, and well my friend. Cheers!

I would say reliability is a thing they could improve. Used to work with backline and SVT CL amps would need repair 2-3 times per year when other amps needed only 1 every other year..
@samiam90593 жыл бұрын
@@Yohahn I was a warranty station for Kurzweil and Ampeg for years. Ampeg always had a stable routine on problems. 95% were customers pushing 6550 tubes to a point of no return which could and did create some expensive repairs. I understood as even way back they were not cheap tubes. The only other problems were accidents spilling everything from beer to barf, dropping/falling while using. The bias never drifted like so many other brands if the tubes were in usable matched condition at the time unless the tubes were the walking dead long overdue.....
@garybratton775610 ай бұрын
Very late reply, but if you’re not pushing the amp, you can very easily disconnect the fan and it will run just fine and be totally quiet. You could also put the fan on a switch, or even wire in a heat sensor to control the fan. I agree it’s way too loud when using the amp at low volume.

I like the lack of knobs on a bass amplifier. Works with my style and saves me some cash usually. Actually looking for the bass version of one of my favorite amps, I understand that it has a lower gain circuit on the input, so I guess it would have a slightly different tone. Gotta try it. 🤘

It’s the Pacifica 611, the higher of the two models like that. Matching color headstock’s most noticeable difference. Black nut and black saddles are also in the higher cost model. Biggest difference you hear is the unbranded pickups vs. Seymour Duncans in the in the better one. I bought the 311 version and I ended up replacing the unbranded pups for Duncan PAF and soapbar found in the 611. Sounds great now! Feels great, too
