Howdy friends. New subscriber here. Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Stargazer and Natural Science used as demo songs. Is that how we roll around here? If so, count me IN!!! =) As for the gear, nice review! I have been using Ampeg amps for more than forty years. It's great to see them innovating while still keeping well grounded in their roots!

Glad to see some new product from Ampeg finally after the Acquisition from Yamaha. This amplifier sounds good and is super compact. Looks to be a good choice if you are trying to save your back. Would love to see a shootout between this and a svt 7 pro.

It’s definitely an encouraging direction to take. When you look at the pedals to come out of dark glass and Aguilar after Korg bought them it’s clear they went straight for the cost cutting. This might not be everyone’s taste, but it looks to be a quality product. Tbh I do feel a bit sorry for ampeg sometimes because nowadays it seems the only sound people want from an ampeg is the SVT sound, but at the same time hardly anyone wants a 45kg tube amp anymore. So they want a solid state SVT, but then always complain it doesn’t sound exactly the same as an SVT lol.
@BassRacerx9 ай бұрын
@@Bobby-wn5yr the economics of tube bass amps really hit ampeg hard. its so much more expensive to produce now than it ever was and only a small percentage of bassists have the budget for a $2500 bass head. Not to mention the drawbacks of the weight and they are somewhat fragile. i'm determined to buy one someday but until then i'll use my SVP PRO preamp into a crown power amplifier

In my opinion, ever since Ampeg started putting a line (pre-amp) output on their bass amps in the 1960's there isn't any real need to mic their cabinets unless you are looking for drum and guitar bleed in your mix.

I used to gig heavily with the SVT iii Pro. Venues with good FOH support and engineers LOVED that amp as much as I did!!! ❤

The line out is great, but it usually strips down the sound and it misses the distinctive cab tone. That's why I love Two Notes for their cab sim technology. I've got no intention to carry a 4x10 to venues anymore
@svt40019 ай бұрын
@SamLazier I didn't miss the sound of the cabinet as much as the feel. It was hard to get used to the sound of my bass not coming from where I was used to it being, and the feel of the sound concussing my body from that location.

@@svt4001I still use SVT 3 Pro on stage. I really love how it rumbles with 8x10 cab. I used Markbass 8x10 cab in our last gig. On stage sound was like thunder. I still love this "live" sound coming from stage.

I LOVE that you show the hand adjusting the controls. So confusing when they just put "adjusting the crudbucket midrange!" on the screen. That gives me no idea of what knob they are actually adjusting.

I don't want to be "that" guy...but this just sounds really sterile to me. The compressor sounds weird and I'm not sure I like the ratio that going on....seems to squash everything and the "grit" is meh at best. I don't see this product being around very long when compared to other heads like the GK's Darkglass, Aguilar, etc. aimed at this demographic of amp users.

One main thing I would totally change about these heads is the EQ possibilities…I would prefer either the 4-band (bass, low mid, high mid, treble) or the 6-band like that of Darkglass heads…
@stevenhirsekorn34449 ай бұрын
If you are gonna have multiple mid controls it would be nice to have them be fully parametric
@frenchytino9 ай бұрын
I have the SVT/DI and I couldn’t agree more with you. Two mid knobs would be better than a variable parametric one.

@@thierry18Don't ask too much of it. Just plugging my P bass into it, I get a passable sound out of my PF350. Ofc it's not going to sound like a Darkglass, and the value proposition is genuinely terrible, but I've certainly heard a lot worse.

Yep. The Line Out sends the signal from _after_ the EQ. Not sure if it also disables the drive circuits too, like it does on my SVT2

I swear this channel is only capable of producing like three different bass tones. They're not bad but it's always the same. I'm close to just ignoring, possibly even unsubscribing. The gear shown here is capable of more than two tones but nope. Just super bright and middy or super bright and just enough bass to remind the listeners they are indeed listening to a bass.
@davedixon21679 ай бұрын
We try to fit the tones to the songs, so maybe it’s the song selection for you? Or it could be the nuances getting lost in youtube’s codecs that reduce the bit rate a little? It doesn’t sound that way on the production side, I can tell you that much.
