Everyone misses AMPEX! They were pioneers and opened up a new thing to the whole world - the video era! They made fantasy into the reality of our days. And all this started 80 years ago. We all knew that there is AMPEX, and this means that all the problems and tasks that time poses to us will be overcome, brilliantly and with the highest quality. Everyone came out of the cradle of AMPEX. AMPEX is the history and pride of American scientific and engineering thought, it is an example of how to be first and always win. Where did AMPEX go? Anyone have an answer?

How many years later would these tapes reliably playback? Looks like the tape is 3/4”.

Hi, I've got a question, how were these graphics inserted? The text, the images, the graphics? I want to make graphics like this with my ADO but I don't know what else I need. I don't know which character generators were really used in the 1980s, either.

Oh how I remember. When we got Metal Particle Tape! No more rusty, lousy, dusty, oxides. For us! No! Metal Particle Tape! Woo hoo! Yee ha! We can now record Digital Data and it will Stick! With this new Shtick. Of Digital Audio and now Digital Video Recorders. In a little box! One person can pick up. It's Portable! Oh… How I remember those days. In the 1980s. And all thanks to Metal Particle Tape. In little plastic cassettes. No more cut fingertips from tape! Yay! No more razor blades. Hurrah! No more splicing tape. Huzzah! Though I was, really really good. At editing audiotape with a razor blade. Nobody could edit like I could. I am amazed a lot of people. They would say… I couldn't hear your edit? I said of course not. If you could? It would not be a good edit. And the same with video. You don't want to see some guy, scratching his nuts. And you will need an, Insert Edit. Otherwise? Later. You will be Assembled, over. And eliminated from your job. You're Fired! I TOLD YOU! I DIDN'T WANT TO SEE ANYBODY SCRATCHING,, THEIR NUTS!! RemyRAD

I miss all of the knobs, dials, switches. We used to be able to grab with our fingertips. We had Muscle Memory. What do you do with a mouse? You chase it all over your desktop. Fucking mouse! And you could never kill it. It is absolutely Infuriating! I say bring back knobs and pushbuttons! I felt like I was working. Doing something. Not playing a videogame! I miss Ampex Corporation. They were terrific. Except for that, terrible error. In the motion sensing wiring. In the schematic. I found. And informed them of. I said the machine will not work like that. And they realized I caught an error. They missed.. They sent out, Errata sheets. To all of the registered owners. To update their Schematics. Because it won't work as printed. I found out firsthand. When I had to create a new wiring harness for one of their machines. And it just would not work at all. And I was straight at the factory. I haven't done anything wrong. It's all absolutely correct to the schematic. But what's this? This wiring doesn't make any sense to me. Why would they wire this backwards? They didn't. The schematic was. It wasn't until I was 36 years old. That I discovered this error. 20 years later. As who needed to build new transport wiring harnesses? I had to. In, 1991. When Ampex still existed. At their peak.. And I got a hold of Vernon Sauer. Who had been one of my instructors at Ampex. He worked along with Jim Wheeler. These guys were part of the original core of Ampex. After Alex had dearly departed. And kept his legacy, going at AMPEX Corp. I miss AMPEX. I really do. I thought they were one of our defense contractors? What happened to AMPEX? How did they just go away? Boeing is still there. Raytheon still exists. IBM hasn't gone anywhere. Sort of. Alexander's AMPEX is now but a memory and piece of American history. RemyRAD

I was so fast editing Betacam bashing down on the jog shuttle dial marking an input an output then, bam edit wait for the edit then smash the eject button, tape out instantly another was threading up, bash on the shuttle spool into the tape looking for some library footage on a 1 hr tape. Ahh the flow the speed and response of shuttling and jogging, I miss those years.
