The plastic ring from a faucet water system I returned got stuck in my kitchen faucet. It’s internally threaded. I tried a knife, screw drivers, Allen wrenches (J SHAPE). I muscled out less than half. Thought I’d have to have the faucet replaced. Kept praying and trying. I looked in my kitchen miscellaneous drawer. Saw my old carabiner ( use for my keys). It had a J shape. It popped that plastic ring out after 2 nd try. I actually jumped up and praised the Lord. I’d been at it since about 7:00 a.m. it was now 10:30a.m. I’m 71 so I got a great arm workout. 😁

So I replaced mine, when I removed it and ran the water without the aerator to flush any debris out, water began leaking underneath the sink? I replaced the aerator and it doesn’t do it now, works great actually. I did notice that without the aerator the water flow was spraying everywhere. Is it normal for it to leak below if the aerator is not attached? It was as if the water was flowing back down into the spout and leaking below. and thank you for the video was very helpful in removing/replacing the part.

Thank you for watching. We're glad you found the video helpful. The aerator helps control the water flow, so you might notice the water dripping down the side of the faucet when the aerator is off. If there is no leak after installing a new aerator then there is no need to worry.

Thanks for th great video. Unfortunately I have an recessed aerator and need a tool. Could u please talk about the tool. I am trying to replace the aerator with functions for an eyewash , face wash ( to eliminate need to use hands under the water) and gargle( to eliminate need for cups). As such I do not know the size of my aerator and am hoping the item will fit small aerators as it seems that mine is as quarter and nickel don’t fit in.
@AmreSupply

Thanks for watching. Recessed aerators often come with a tool. For example you can see in this example the wrench that is included with this aerator: www.amresupply.com/part/11402665 If there are aerators on each of the eyewash nozzels, those might be a special part or still use the common thread. This might differ between models. You could measure it and compare it to the dimensions of standard aerators.

Thanks for watching. Check the threads, it's likely that there is a buildup of calcium which might prevent a good seal when you tighten the aerator. The threads can be cleaned by soaking a rag in vinegar and letting it sit for 5 minutes. In some cases might need to use a wire brush to help clean the threads.

I had just moved in after 12 years of renting my house and the tenants never put salt in the water softener brine tank. So the interior of all the faucets were caked with sediment and impurities. Which is the reason putting on the aerators was a failure in 2 of my sinks. Eventually 6 months later I replaced with modern and better faucets. Not a problem for me anymore. 👍

@AmreSupply 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, thank you for watching. I am not aware of a specific tool for removing aerators unless its a factor made key type one for the hidden areators. One thing you could try is to wrap a thick blue elastic band (the ones you'll find from the supermarket holding together vegetables) Wrap it several times with the elastic band, then use the channel lock pliers. You might find that that has a lot more grip without damaging the aerator.

@@anthonychan3483 As well, if that doesn't help, then try soaking the tip of the faucet in vinegar for 10 min. You can use a rag or try to place a bag over top of the aerator. Sometimes calcium in the water can harden and build up, vinegar will dissolve any minerals.

Having and issue getting a very corroded aerator loosened with the pliers. With or without a cloth. the Pliers just keeps sliding. Any tips?
@AmreSupply
@AmreSupply 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Its likely that there is a buildup of calcium or other minerals that has cause the aerator to fuse to the threads. If you soak a cloth in vinegar, or try to soak a plastic bag around the aerator it will help dissolve some of the minerals and make it easier to turn. You can also take some thick rubber bands and loop them around the aerator to help the pliers grip. Hope this helps!

My problem- When I install the whole aerator and shell I always scratch the shell. I use a cloth but still. I also use same tool in vid to unscrew. Now the problem is the faucets I buy are not cheap. They are also gold color. Last thing I want is to scratch stuff when putting on new parts. They make a tool for pretty much every thing. They don't to remove or screw in a aerator so it won't scratch the outside shell? I will say I do tend to lock stuff pretty tight. That may have some ( not all ) bearing as to why the teeth of tools are marking shell. When you tighten all just hand tight without a tool?
@AmreSupply
@AmreSupply 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It depends on how thick the cloth is, but there is still a chance of the teeth marking the aerator. There are different tools that will be listed as non-marring that won't have teeth. One versatile tool that can be useful to have is a strap wrench. The rubber strap can be tightened to any size and does not bite and scratch the fitting that you're tightening: www.amresupply.com/part/EBV-22-SLOAN-STRAP-WRENCH

@@AmreSupplythe cold water side. It has no screw or anything and it's round similar to the one in the video. I need to replace the cold water side handle I have the stuff from moen but I can not open the tap since it's kinda loose when opening and there is no grip of any sort on the handle so I can twist it. Any ideas?
@AmreSupply

@@ladha99 Look to see if there is a set screw on the back of the handle. This will look like a small circle. You can use a small hex wrench (allen wrench) to loosen the set screw. Then simply lift up to remove the handles.

Thanks for watching. You'll likely need to find it for your particular brand of faucet and search from there. Some aerators will come with the tool. For example here's an example of one of the delta aerators and tool: www.amresupply.com/part/RP54977-DELTA-AERATOR-1-5-GP

Hi Michael, thanks for watching. Sometimes minerals like calcium from the water can fuse the aerator to the faucet. You can use a rag or a bag full of vineger to soak the aerator. It can help dissolve the minerals to help release it. As well you can use rubber bands to increase the grip on the aerator when you try to unscrew it.

I think our plumber may have broken mine. The aerator is just loose and no water comes out of it anymore. The water comes out from behind the sink now. It’s just stuck there, can be rotated a little bit, yet it can’t be removed.
@AmreSupply
@AmreSupply 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The aerator has threads so if it spins it should unscrew more. If the threads are stripped or damaged then a new faucet might be needed. It is possible that the aerator is blocked with debris or minerals. If you think that the plumber has damaged your system during a repair, then they should fix the problem they created.

And, what if I did exactly this, replacing the entire aerator unit (with gasket), and there is still a drip, ever so small, coming from around the aerator. (The new gasket appears to be exactly the same size as the old one, and the aerator is the identical model.)
@AmreSupply
@AmreSupply 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. If the leak goes away then the drip is likely just residual water left inside the aerator. Also you can try tightening the aerator a bit more to see if this helps. If the drip is constant and doesn't go away then its likely that your faucet cartridge or the seats and springs are worn out causing water to slowly leak. If you have a single handle faucet you can see how to repair this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2rRZ3yQl9d0i8U For two handle faucets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4HbYmN_gbajbJY

Thanks for watching. The direction to remove the old aerator is shown at 1:31 From this perspective, turning it towards the left will unscrew the aerator. It is possible that there is a mineral buildup which is sticking to the aerator. You can put a plastic sandwich bag of vinegar and place it under the tap to submerge the aerator. Use elastic bands to hold it in place. Alternatively you can use a cloth soaked in vinegar. After an hour it will help dissolve the minerals and the aerator should be easier to remove.

Hi Jay, thank you for watching. Minerals in the water can start to build up on the threads making it seem like its locked in place. You can soak a rag in vinegar and place over the aerator for 10 minutes to let it soak in. It can help dissolve some of the minerals making it easier to unscrew.

Had purchased a movable kitchen faucet head 360° just as the one shown in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqbaiHx5m95ja68. Is there any way you could show how to repair the shower head. Plumber had to open it recently to clean the same of dirt & mud and after fixing it back, the faucet works only in a single spray mode. The other 2 modes don't work. Any way to explain how to fix the faucet so that all the modes work.
@AmreSupply
@AmreSupply 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sanjeev, thank you for watching. That is a pretty specific model that we haven't seen before. It likely has a diverter inside of it to change the water when the side button is pressed. There is a chance that the diverter piece was installed upside down when the head was put back together. Also sometimes pieces need to be placed in a certain direction. It might be rotated 90 or 180 degrees so check that the holes inside line up. Without alignment, the faucet can't divert the water, meaning that other modes not working. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for watching. The video name was specifically "How to Replace a Faucet Aerator" as well the description lists exactly what will be done. The series name is "Repair & Replace" some videos focus on troubleshooting and repairs and other videos are direct replacements. Regardless, the aerator is not a part that is easily repaired other than cleaning any buildup of minerals with vinegar. In most cases a replacement is just best.

@@AmreSupply I repair them and clean them, unless one of the plastic pieces cracks or breaks in more than one place. A soldering iron and sandpaper works great. Using vinegar is the easiest and safest way to clean it, especially if there are children around. Always clean the inside of the faucet too in order to remove debris there too.

What you show is very obvious. It didn’t solve my problem So what do you do when the faucet is a Moen, brand new, just installed hours ago, and a strap wrench won’t fit. Sorry I won’t use a towel or rag as the pressure from adjustable players is not even , deforming the piece and will scratch the finish. I even bought a pair of plumbers pliers with slip on silicone tips at Home Depot , it was a waste of money as the tips did not provide any grip and slipped out of the brand new pliers tips. Moen was no help, they bounced me over to Home Depot to an associate who was no help.
