@@opinionsvary I wouldn’t care if the base materials included Kryptonite. I’d never go 25,000 miles between oil changes. Here’s why. I just watched a vid where the producer dissected a Supertec oil filter which had been used for 11,000 miles, with Supertec full synthetic oil. Now admittedly, Supertec isn’t Amsoil, but it’s still a good product, roughly middle of the pack among synthetics. But the filter was clogged with particulates that looked like sludge. @Sorgel Wix filters are good, but the strength of Amsoil oil doesn't come from the oil itself. It also comes very much from the filters. Do some research on Amsoil EA oil filters. They use synthetic media that offers far better filtration down to a much smaller Micron size and also better flow then a typical filter. Some other company sell them as well, but Amsoil makes the largest variety of filters and they're easy to acquire. It's how they got such long oil change intervals. The filters are so good that a oil analysis on Bobistheoilguy show the oil was actually cleaner than factory after being used in the engine and passing through these filters.

The test I would like to see is the same oil producer…but different viscosities. So say 0W-16, 0W-20, 0W-30, and 0W-40…. All made by same manufacture and the same “line” for that manufacturer. The viscosities at 100C should be ~ 6, 7, 10, and 12 cP, respectively. Key items would be the lubricity test at ~100C, evaporization loss, and flow at both low (0C) and high (100C) temperature. So point is to determine how good low viscosity oils protect against wear vs higher viscosity (even if only 6 cP viscosity delta across the 4 oils (at operating temp of 100C)). Is getting a very small increase in gas mileage reducing the engine life? I want to get at least 300k from an engine. So need the best protection. Thanks for considering this test and keep up the great work!

This man literally mailed a Trophy to Amsoil, I wonder if they ever said anything

Yes, they were very appreciative.

@@ProjectFarm im sure they liked it. They arent a huge company and it shows with their oil quality and price. Great products and great company just overpriced for me. If i was building a race car or something special I'd run only amzoil until 50k miles or so then switch to whatever

I used to be a lab technician for quality and reliability. Worked in the auto industry for ~20 yrs and total for about 30 yrs. I doubt I could have done much better aside from instrumentation and equipment, which are cost prohibitive.

@@garrettstevensen2467 Did Tod ever bring up price? He was trying to determine which is the best oil based on it's performance. If you don't want to spend $90 per oil change, no one is gonna blame you. But if you technically want the best, you have to pay the price. It's not much of a head scratcher, really.
@richardhoward94415 жыл бұрын
@@garrettstevensen2467 that pricing really only applies to 5w-30. The other weights are much closer in pricing.

Thanks for this series, Project Farm! As a regular human being who uses his Tacoma to carry tools and go to the store on Sundays, I'd go with Pennzoil. The price difference between Pennzoil and Amsoil is huge! I think it all depends on what kind of vehicle you have, and how much you can let go in oil and filters.

I just priced the top oils here and turns out Amsoil was literally a few dollars more than the Pensoil. Yes, I did have to spend $20 extra for a membership with Amsoil but, after that the cost was next to nothing between Amsoil and Pensoil. After the initial cost of “membership” the cost per liter for Amsoil is less than the cheapest Pensoil I can find
