We usually just use puppy kibble (regular dry food). However with this puppy the owners wanted him on raw food so depends which video you watch but sometimes dry food or other times ground up raw food (kind of like raw hamburger meat consistency). Thank you for watching

Amstaff is love, they are very well behaved easy to train and perfect guard 💂‍♀️ people compare them with APBT and take them for ill tempered breed but trust me this breed is really friendly. It has been more then five years Bella has been with me and she has always been such a darling

Not a bad idea but they can usually not even handle their dogs let alone a camera. Maybe what I should do is send my videographer over and have them fill the dog before I even show up. Great idea. 🤔🤔🤔 Got me thinking

They respond well to training. They also train themselves very well to be disasters if left alone too much. They need their pack or family.. i love they are not independent. Being with you is the nest thing to them. As hunting is the best thing to a Walker Hound, as pooping in the hpuse is to a cocker spaniel. Lol

Garret gets up to $20,000 for a 6 week VIP board and train. Garret has courses at DIYK9.com teaching everything you see in these videos, but in great detail. All the way from puppy training through fully off leash trained. Is the training good? Well, so far two of his moderators have become full time professional dog trainers, so yeah, it's freaking awesome! Knowing how to train your own dog means you can instantly correct an issue, and with the info in the course, you know how to not only train what Garret shows you, you know enough that you can train your dog to do so many things that are not in the videos. The training's that good.

Enthusiastic dogs are a thing of beauty. My dog does this when I bring her into the hell position (AKA finish position). If she's not right where I want her I give her the little verbal "Uh uh" and she hops sideways and sucks up tight against my leg. That's some of the DIYK.com education there by Garret if you're not aware of that site yet.

@Troy-Echo

Any age, any breed. Intelligent dogs are easier/faster in most cases. Sometimes a dog is almost "too" intelligent and figures out ways around the training. Our dog learned how to get over the fence when she was 4 months old, and as a member at DIYK9.com I was able to learn how to proof her off putting her paws up on the fence. It worked great for many months. Then she jumped the fence without "touching" the fence, which technically wasn't breaking the training as she didn't touch the fence. When our other dog (too short and stocky to jump the fence puts her paws on the fence, Echo will stand up and put her paws on Snowbell, which again, isn't breaking the training not to touch the fence. Intelligent dogs are fun. Echo keeps me laughing when she finds new ways to work around the training. Another time I was on the porch waiting on my wife or daughter to come out and I dropped a piece of kibble, so I immediately issued the "leave it" command, and Echo stopped and sat down. I marked the desired behavior and gave her some kibble, then tapped her nose and said, "Free", expecting her to grab the piece of kibble I'd originally dropped. Nope, she went right past it and started emptying the outdoor the cat food bowl. I couldn't really correct her for that because I did "free" her, so it was my fault, not the dogs. I gave her several second and gave her the leave it commands again, and she came back and left the cat food alone. Yeah, intelligent dogs are fun to train.

Puppies are just so fun to train. Food motivation, drive for love and affection, and little or no bad habits to untrain because they haven't lived long enough to have any really bad habits. I wish I'd have the courses at DIYK9.com (Garret's courses) when my dog was a puppy. It would have been a bit easier to train. Even without, my dog listens so well, and I constantly get positive comments every time I take the dog out in public.

@AmericanStandardK9
@AmericanStandardK9 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We use their names only when teaching recalls. When they hear their name it means come to me. So we setup scenarios where we know they will be coming to us (because we have food or a toy or are being fun and exciting) and we call their name just before we present the food or whatever it is that is going to get them to come to us. What we don't do is preface every command with their name. Fido sit, fido down, fido watch, fido stay. To me that's annoying. But it works for other folks. I reserve it for coming to me.

Do you have any suggestions for convincing a friend that the shock collars you use aren't hurting the pups? I have a friend who is a really good dog trainer and she is breeding one of her husky's currently and is going to be be giving me a puppy. I want to train the puppy but she is very against the shock collars. Obviously I am as well if it can be avoided (and I likely wont even need it since I'm going to be training the puppy from a very early age myself) but for things like the puppy running into the street or something that could potentially put the dogs life at risk, It's just reassurance that the shock collar will get the dog back in a worst-case scenario.
@AmericanStandardK9
@AmericanStandardK9 3 жыл бұрын
Just have them watch my videos with puppies. I'm "shocking" them a lot in my videos. Meaning I'm using it a lot the dogs tails keep on wagging There is a comprehensive ecollar training video coming up in the next couple weeks that I will be coming. Unfortunately you cant just put an ecollar on a dog and shock them and expect them to come running back to you. It doesn't work that way if anything they'll run faster away from you when you shock them. So tread carefully. Stay tuned for this video series that will be coming out soon that will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about ecollar training.
@AmericanStandardK9
@AmericanStandardK9 3 жыл бұрын
And I should also mention I don't care what people's uninformed opinions are and you shouldn't either. And to further clarify shock collars can absolutely cause pain to a dog. Let's not hide that fact. There is a specific purpose in which we would use a shock collar to cause pain to a dog. However that accounts for about less than 1% of the use of the e-collar. Just like you can use a leash to correct a dog you can use an e-collar to correct a dog. Just like you could use a leash or your voice or other tool to walk a dog to help steer its behavior and keep it out of trouble without ever hurting it you can also use the ecollar for the same and even more without ever hurting the animal. If you're worried about what people think than the e-collar is not for you. Everyone will have their opinion on the matter.
@wearejungians
@wearejungians 3 жыл бұрын
@@AmericanStandardK9 Well said. It isn't that I CARE what she thinks. It's that she's giving me a free puppy and it falls under her no shock collar parameters. I hope to change her mind. I'm also not ignorant to the fact that the shock collar can hurt dogs and understand that it is for rare cases and only to be used with proper training. I'm trying to read as much as I can about training my dog properly so I'm looking forward to that video. Subscribed!

Do you e collar train?
@Troy-Echo
@Troy-Echo 6 ай бұрын
Yes. It is an available option if the owner wishes the dog trained to that level. The courses at DIYK9.com where you learn to train your own dog go from puppy training through obedience and leash training. Once the dog has mastered skills, e-collar training can be overlayed for great reliability on and off leash, allowing your dog to explore the world beyond a 6 ft. leash. I love it because it allows a dog to run around and be a dog, and for the owner to be able to reliably recall the dog without the need of physical leash.

Why do you clip his ears?
@AmericanStandardK9
@AmericanStandardK9 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't clip or crop his ears the owner chose to do that because it's the breed standard. Also, on that topic, it's technically unnatural and can be unhealthy to have droopy ears. All dogs with droopy ears were purposefully bred to have droopy ears either for the look because it's cute or supposed functionality of helping stir up scent from the ground like a Bloodhound. Propping them up or cropping ears is actually more healthy for them so that bacteria and moisture doesn't build up in there. So, in short it looks better in my opinion, fits the breed standard, and is healthier for them. Wolves don't have floppy ears. Dingos don't have floppy ears. In fact, I'm trying to think of a canine or other carnivore in the animal kingdom with floppy ears. Can't think of one. Cropping ears is undoing prior breeding choices made by humans.

@@AmericanStandardK9 cropped ears isn’t standard The standard is cropped or uncropped with the latter preferred. There is also no data to support cropping ears is healthier by the assumption that the procedure will reduce the chance of ear infections.
@AmericanStandardK9
@AmericanStandardK9 3 жыл бұрын
@@boudroux1 Really Ben? You come to my channel to post this? This is the best you could do? Opinions are like @ssholes Ben, everyone has one and some stink worse than others. Cropping of the ears is in fact "a standard" you @sshat. Meaning you could do it, many would say you should do it (myself included), and it is accepted by the AKC. Therefore, it would be referred to as a "standard". To be even more clear, you could enter a dog with cropped ears into a dog show and even win that show with those cropped ears. "The latter" might be preferred (again someone's opinion) but the AKC says you will get penalized if the ears are "full drop". You know what the opposite of full drop is? Cropped. In fact, I took the time to Google "best in show" for this breed and first thing that popped up was a dog named Louie that won with his cropped ears. And, there is plenty of "data" or "evidence" to confirm my point about less issues with cropped ears. It's called common sense. Just from my own personal experience I know for a fact that cropped ears are in fact easier to clean, easier to look down into to see dirt or other build up, easier to air dry, and therefore much less prone to infection or issues. I rest my case Ben. Now go clean your opinion it's starting to smell like shit.
