They made a big mistake which they will not forget anymore till the end of their lives.

Fuglsang got a report from Astana's team car that the group behind is far enough that's why they already played cat and mouse. The Camera did not saw how Van der Poel dragged all the other riders, with that the team cars does not have any clue that the time gap have diminished that fast.

@@savievankint At 2km they had 34 seconds on Kwiatkovski and 50 seconds on group MvdP. The differences were pretty steady untill then. In the next 100 meters they lost 4 seconds to both Kwiatkovski and Mathieu! Alaphilippe must have been pretty tired, because they were 36,3 km on the attack and he (4) even lost the sprint to Fuglsang (3). The will to win must be stronger than the fear to loose.
@Rahul-eh3rf4 жыл бұрын
He might not have won, but mad respect to Fuglsang. So many guys would have been happy to tow Alaphilippe up to the line and settle for second. But he took a risk, refused to settle for second, and actually managed to outsprint Alaphilippe in the end. Sure he didn't win, but he made the race so much more exciting by his willingness to sacrifice some positions to have a chance to fight for 1st. I hope more guys will refuse to work and force Alaphillipe and other top guys to either pull or risk being overtaken, rather than pulling all the way, getting smoked in the sprint, and settling for positions.

Fuglsang beat him at the line, only after Alaphillipe closed down Kviatkowski with 500 meters to go, opened the sprint too early and with additional tailwind help from Simon Clarke. If there were 10 riders sprinting, Fuglsang would be lucky to get 9th. Alaphillipe should have won this.
