I upgraded my 464+ a few years ago and squeezed a gotek inside the case. I still use external 3.5" floppy. As you say probably they ultimate cpc

I'd never seen this range of Amstrad. Glad you made this video!

That floppy cable soldering was impressively tidy.

I know I'm 2 years too late to the party, but there's a passable replacement for solder braid. Just copper cable (preferably with a lot of very thin strands) with some solder flux applied to it. Not quite as handy as the real deal but it works well enough if you run out of solder braid at the worst time.

The 6128+ was my first computer. I spent many hundreds of hours playing burnin rubber and typing in games from Amstrad Format Magazine. To this day I still set my terminal apps to yellow on blue, albeit a little less bright.

Fantastic video - it actually makes me wonder if I should swap my 6128 Plus for a 464 Plus!
@eto61974 жыл бұрын
Why would you do that? Except for loading cassettes for nostalgic reasons, the 6128plus already has everything that was done in this video. And adding a cassette port is much easier than doing all of this. And to add a Gotek to the 6128 plus is even easier. Just get a Centronics connector and crimp it to a floppy cable: done! No soldering required (unless you want an ABBA switch to switch between A and B - but even that is simple)

Congratulations for your video, but I prefer to keep my 464plus as it is. Thanks for sharing!!!

In my experience, loading tape software from an external cassette player is also considerably buggier than from the onboard drive. Slightly off volume settings and imperfect connections or cables leads to noise and the dreaded read errors A and/or B.

Ah, percussive desoldering! My favorite!

I've only recently found your channel, very interesting, thanks. Ah, I know 'if only's' are pointless but assuming the '+' ASIC was too advanced to go in the original CPC's one wonders if the '+' range might have been a little more successful if the Z80 was clocked @ 8mhz? Yep, a 6mhz mod works and so would 8mhz if you could find a monitor that could sync to an over-fast video output... it might not have made a huge difference but as the hardware can do it a bit of extra speed to allow more '16bit-alike' software may have been enough for some. The '+' actually has very good GFX indeed, just nobody bothered and the 4mhz Z80 wasn't really enough to drive it. Rambling...

Need a 64kb ram expansion but would love a cpc to plus feature upgrade too?
@DirkDierickx4 жыл бұрын
i just use the zaxon usb drive with 512kB expansion on an original 464 (it also has parados etc), there isn't that much use for the extra cpc-plus enhancements.

Yeah I'm thinking about getting a DDI3 for my OG 464. The 464 plus setup takes less desk space though
