Longplay and review for "Manhattan 95" on the Amstrad CPC!
Do you ever find it crazy that some big movies from the 80's never had official licensed home computer games? From Arnie's Commando to even Mad Max being completely ignored... but both 'inspiring' many countless un-official games we all enjoyed! A body of work criminally overlooked is most definitely director John Carpenter's! (Well, one terrible attempt was made with "Big Trouble In Little China" but we don't talk about that!!) Surely his classic "Escape From New York" would be perfect for a computer game? But what if I told you that we DID get a game (an un-official one of course) in all but name, and that it's been right under our noses all these years in France from UBI Soft of all companies! Under the name .... "Manhattan 95"! THIS is the game we are investigating and longplaying here...

Ah, 1986 when companies like Ubisoft did not care about copyrights at all :) Also the swastika at the walls would have been the death sentence for this game in Germany commercially. And I can't imagine playing this game without a walkthrough! Thank you for showing this!

Been an age since I was last on KZbin - really glad to see you still making videos and that they're still a great deal of fun. Really ambitious title that looks as though it would have been a slog to get through back in the day without a guide - Escape from Trial and Error Purgatory. Hats off to the devs for trying to meld a few gameplay styles into something unique.

Hey Gaz! Nice to see you again! Hope you're keeping well and glad you like that. And yup, what a lot of people didn't see is endless attempts to work out this sodding game - there were also a couple of streams before hand where we played this game live trying to figure it out too! But yea a fairly ambitious game for 1986.

3:32 Ah, no. I think you mixed that up with Escape from LA. 😁 No virus, it was nano explosives in the first movie.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh arse. Yes. Indeed, we (me and Mrs Xyphoe) watched both in the last year, but "Escape From LA" quite recently so I probably had that on my mind. Apologies everyone! It's a shame that KZbin removed the 'annotations' feature years ago so there's no way to put any kind of corrections on the video.

If I had found that game back when it was made I would have spent weeks on that. It would have probably been a most memorable game. I have many games like that, not always the most popular games, just the ones I'm nostalgic for @@Xyphoe

Interesting never knew this existed,the person you said looked like John carpenter,I think is meant to be Lee van cleef, sure he was in movie,well done really enjoyed.😊

It could be yes, him too. It looks more like him than John Carpenter to be fair. But then he's in the Snake Plissken outfit with the eye patch, camo trousers and boots... too! So THREE different possibilities! Who it's meant to be... Snake? (or "Snail" as it is in the game) ... Lee Van Cleef's character Hauk? A tribute to John Carpenter? Or actually a 4th possibility... because the scrolling text says "Manage of the goal (jail it means... bad translation) Thunderson" .... ? Actually who really cares! 😆

"You are the Duke of New York your a Number 1" 😂😅😊 Classic lines there from the film an wow wow wow this one certainly was way off the radar😬 never heard of this an yeah cheeky how it Manhattan 95 called yeah blows my mind 🤯 im shocked abit like films like Cobra got a game Die Hard,, but yeah such a big blockbuster like Escape from New York, Never had a official game release that is crazy an alone that aside the film ended up getting a cult following status so its crazy it never got a official game with same name😮😮 Was certain interesting lot to see this thanks for sharing it very interesting great content as always @Xyphoe 🎖🎖🎖🎖 Nice history into the game exploring explaining good nice longplay review quite enjoyed seeing this alot certain aswell when its a game that never heard of its almost like this should certain be a hidden gem status to for this game so great job in finding this one 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎

Regarding most of the disc images from CPC-POWER having bugs - I recall that some of Ubi Soft's games had a protection system that, for a long time, _no_ Amstrad CPC emulator could emulate successfully (although I don't know if this is still the case now). I wonder if _Manhattan 95_ uses the same protection, and instead of refusing to load, it deliberately introduces the bug that you mention at 15:46?
