hi good effort on the small kits, i built a couple many years ago using fiber for every window ok for the time but with the new micro smd so much easier. I'm just finishing my refit 1/350 and have also been inspired by the hellos E build , the only part i haven't yet figured out was the actual display board do you print it yourself? Oh and i did start the E build ages ago but was not happy with my window quality cut outs, but seeing yours has given me the lift to try again great work.

ADRIAN Pope Thanks! I have purchased the 1/350 but don’t know when I’ll get round to building it. Don’t know where I’d put it for one thing. The windows on the E are definitely a test of patience. There are over 1400 of them, each requiring multiple drill holes. For the display I had the backlit film printed by an online service. I just sent them a PDF that I made in Inkscape.

Something i just noticed while rewatching this (probably for the hundreth time) The windows in the side of the saucer are lit up. Something the refit did not have. All the windows there were black decals. Is that due to you gaining more experience (since both ships have a flat surface there) or is there just not enough space to light it up? Thanks again and can't wait for your next upload. :D

The main reason is that on the Excelsior the windows are on separate decals. So you can use them as drilling templates before assembly. Not so for the Enterprise. I believe that you can buy photoetch drilling templates for the windows, but I didn’t know that at the time. Space was also a consideration. But I will give it a try when I do the 1/1000 Reliant.

Yes besides the Reliant, I have the USS Voyager and several Star Wars models to do. Have been a bit distracted recently.

How many coats of paint will still allow the Raytheon effect to show through? I take it that it's complete bare inside, but on the outer hull? Thanks.

Yes bare inside. I had a layer of light grey primer, and two coats each of white and pearl white. I’m not sure what the limit is.

I always felt that this ship should of been the Enterprise NCC 1701A when the refit Enterprise exploded in part 3 then the voyage home they get a whole new Enterprise
