Great review as usual, I was glad to see this kit reissued. This one is on my list to build, I plan to do the "Rubber Duck" from the movie "Convoy". I found the duck hood ornament in 1/25 scale a couple years ago. Keep up the great work Chris.

Honestly, I dont understand how you get thumbs down votes; trolls/haters, I guess, lol. First off, I am not a "truck guy," BMW is more my speed, but this kit looks like fun to put together. As an US Navy contractor, we would occasionally need to deliver equipment to ships up and down Eastern Seaboard (Philly to Key West) and had an International 4300 with a DT466, dual 55 gallon tanks, and a 16 foot box and lift gate. Truck was fun to drive. I think i would want to find one of those and build it up, even if i had to customize the box. Your channel inspires me! Great review! Sorry about the weather...good model building days ;-)

Appears to be a super nice mack. I did build the "Convoy" movie truck version of this one when I was 12 yrs old and won a model car show at key bee toys in Bismarck ND. The old amt trucks were awesome. Front tires are poseable.

Now that Round 2 owns AMT, MPC, Ertl molds they could release a version of this Mack with the Rubber Duck grill guard duck hood emblem and sleeper for a half decent version of the Rubber Duck from the movie Convoy. Even though in the movie the Mack was a RS 700 L it would be better then when Ertl put out the Rubber Duck on their DM 600 chassis.

AMT Round 2 really needs to pony up with the decal sets. The reworked outside decals are great but gauge decals are what are desperately needed on these kits. The gauges are too ill defined to pick out with paint and decals just look plain better. Great release though.

I have this truck but I had decided to modify it into a flatbed I definitely loved the quality of the moldings were well done and you could make some choices with it such as the decals or the fuel tank you wanted I had chose to use the square tanks amt definitely did a good job with the design to that kit Edit: I had forgot that I had decided to switch the mustang to a small hot rod dragster the same size scale 125 with the same color of paint I thought it would had went together better the truck took 4 months to build I had actually had the intention to make the truck on the box but then with a month of sitting with the parts loose I decided to change it to a flatbed I definitely enjoy the final product

I've got over 50 yrs of building. I've been working on this kit for a few weeks. The engine builds up nice. The amount of flash on smaller parts is amt's old normal. Some of the smaller parts are unusable. The installed engine will keep the hood from fitting. The instructions are poorly done in places. This kit will requires a lot of work, far beyond something a beginner can do. My copy certainly not a clean kit. I've reboxed it for now, trying to decide if I want to continue fighting it. I guess It's just a so so repop.
@jasone.dipert52903 жыл бұрын
I am having trouble myself, have. Not done a build in over 20 years. Now doing this with my son & thinking, how can I show him how to do a good job if I fighting with it also. Yes, neat looking. Thinking about parting it & made up my own, much as I don’t like that. Thank you for posting!
@mikesloan9849 Жыл бұрын
I am building this kit along side of AMT`s Autocar Dump Truck. Comparing both kit for quality and fit, The Autocar is a much better fitting kit and a lot less flash on the parts. The Mack has an abundance of flash, poor fit on almost every part not to mention the number of sink marks on a number of the parts. adding to a lot of work to build a half decent kit. Definitely not for the beginner.

I found ejector pin excess plastic inside the 'C' channel of the frame rails. Knife I got has 4 extra different type of blades, an extra ordinary blade, angled, a scraper edge wide flat blade, a half moon style round edge blade, and a scraper style offset angled blade. The wide scraper blade is too wide to fit between the rails to scrape off the excess if scraping front to back, but I used the angled edge scraper style blade and held cutting edge flat, scraping top to bottom, like sanding the excess down. It removes the excess plastic, might take more time than sanding or using much smaller edge scraper blades, but it works to make the excess remove so the cross members can connect correctly.

Maybe it's just me but I don't have much luck with AMT kits, period. This AMT kit #1039 is a classic example. Very thin gauge of plastic, ill fitting parts, confusing instructions accompanied by patheticillustrations. Yes, lots of parts and detail, but that just simply exacerbates the previous mentioned. I won't buy another AMT kit unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm sticking with Revell and others. :^)

Have you ever purchased a kit, and brought it home with great anticipation? Then, after a week or two into the build you discover the kit is a piece of crap? Over engineered, over detailed with some parts so small they're barely identifiable. Tires did not fit the wheels. Assembling the frame was like a Chinese jig saw puzzle! I seriously question the accuracy of the scale it's self. Placed alongside other 1:25 scale trucks I have built, (other brands), this one is small and odd looking. I couldn't force myself to finish the build and tossed the whole thing. Jus sayin.

This is my third AMT kit, and all I can say is they are awful !! My first two went into the bin, but as I love this Mack truck, I thought third time lucky. How wrong was I !! The castings are dreadful and the instructions are beyond useless ! I've been building plastic kits for well over 60 years, and these are the worst I've ever come across !
