This is one awesome kit! AMT really knocked the ball out of the park with this one. Built it back in the mid-1990s but never built it stock as it just lent itself to customization. I kept the chassis for several years too after discarding the body following two repaints and the paint stripping that went along with that.

Hey Chris. thanks for the build. Mine had a warped frame so I used a heat gun to warm it up enough to straighten it. I did a lot more detail in the engine and compartment. All in all, a really fun build. I've learned a bunch from you. Thanks

Thanks Jeff, it's an amazing kit. Pretty much fell together. I was worried about the firewall and inner-fenders but even that slapped together easy.

I have the Texaco version of this kit, that I’ll be building as a green & black Texaco truck. I’ll be giving it to a local shop I go to. It was a full service Texaco station until ‘85. They’ve been there since 1957. In the Fife Tacoma area of Washington state.

The only things I would do different would be to put an actual wood bumper on it. Same thing with the bed. I have some oak and maple stock just for jobs like that. I have done that before to a truck back in the mid 80's in High School. I love doing stuff like that. I think I will find that kit and do just that. Thanks for the video. Old Guys Rule!!

Absolutely gorgeous truck Chris! Tell me how you are using the heat gun to get such a beautiful finish please?
@hpiguy7 жыл бұрын
After about 4 hours of drying I'll hit the paint with a model hobby heat gun normally used for applying airplane fabric (not a hairdryer) and warm up the body, I'd guess to about 170+ degrees and the paint just glosses over and smooths itself out like hot butter in a pan. Just keep an eye on small parts, braces or they will warp really fast. You can pull the gun away, let it cool, them hit it again if you want to try again. Then hit it with the cool air setting to harden it up. Let it sit a few hours and you are good. Doesn't work with all glosses, but it usually works well with the sprays I use.

Thank you sir! Time to experiment!!

I just bought one of these kits yesterday and I watched your review a few more times just to make sure the frame in my kit was covered in flesh and a few other parts where to I never noticed it on yours could this be a bad shot or just not cleaning the molds? ?????

I normally try to build the kits as they come from the box because they are being reviewed. When I add parts, some people don't pay attention when I say it's not included, they buy the kit and scream at the manufacturer that parts they saw on my review are 'missing' from their kit.

Thanks for the video Chris. Awesome truck. Turned out sweet. I tell you... Your reviews are the best. You always pick some cool kit subjects. Thanks in advance

Thanks man! Camera is a Canon SX170IS . It wasn't very expensive but it has a tripod mount and films in HD and records in stereo with the press of one button so I'm happy with it. For still pics it has a crazy good zoom as well. It's getting older now and I'm looking for a new one. Hope I can find another good camera that works well.

This channel is great for seeing what you get in the box. Thanks for doing these videos. I just purchased the model and in doing some research, I am stunned on how correct this kit is. The only real faux pas' I have noticed are the windshield visor (no reinforcing bead was in the original . The bead is in the middle of the visor where the vee is formed) and yet here are pics of a restored one with it: www.lowrider.com/rides/trucks/1504-1950-chevrolet-3100/. The transmission is steel and they were not often painted and the distributor should be black as it was cast iron, not aluminum. Love the detail of this kit. Compared to many that I put together in the 60's, this thing is spot on. Here is the brochure from GM: www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/historical-brochures/chevrolet-trucks/1954-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf
