Hi Raoul, great job on this very informative video. The issue with the original cab's side window was that the window opening slopes upwards as it goes from back to front. It was fixed on the later issues and you can use the Coke kit's cab to fix it.✌😎👌

I now see what you are talking about. I thought it was more about the vent window that the upward slope of the whole side window opening.

I recently got the Coke Issue of this kit, by Round 2. Dryfitting the front and rear windshields shows they should fit well. 👍 Well done, Raoul, for this kit comparison. 😊

That solves that then!. I built the original issue a few months ago and I had no real dramas. They've retooled the glass, you can tell by those little ejector nubs on the glass edge that you cut off, that's modern tooling. I'm surprised you didn't see the side window issue on the original issue to all the other cabs, look again, it slopes up towards the vent window on the original cab only. It didn't bother me but it's there.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
I see it now. I thought it was more about the actual vent window than the whole upward slope of the bottom side window.

Thank so much for detailed comparison. I have at least 15 of the 55-57 stepside/ cameo pickup kits various releases. My most favorite pickup I had owned 5 of them wish i still had 1. We are Modelers over coming fitment issues are part of model building. not that I wound not mind a perfect fit kit available. Kits would be awful boring if they all fit together like a jigsaw puzzel. There are videos of fixes for the window that work welll. Keep up the great content. Also thanks for giving me a reason to buy more kits just grabbed up 3 more of the coke version cameos. Thank You.😁Have a Great 4Th 💥💥🎆🧯

Man, you went all out on this one. Thank you! Now I have a little hope for my Coke version. I watched and commented on Matt’s video thinking if the gap was so significant I wouldn’t even bother trying to build it. Now I’ll at least examine the fit of the windows and proceed accordingly. I too really like the look of the truck and many of the completed builds I’ve seen were beautiful, especially the Coke livery. Hopefully as you were hypothesizing the primer, paint and clear coats will tighten up any excess gap, problem solved.

Thanks. For me, I have had issues with outside fitting windows after clear. We will see if I have that with this one.

It's a good thing you have all four issues of this kit so you can truly see the differences between them, and a great idea to take the relevant measurements as well.

Great video covering this with multiple kits! My hypothesis were close in that I believed there were multiple window toolings as well as maybe some fill out/short shot issues. The new tooling has more fill points around the window. My bad one was the first release and looking back at photos I think it was very weak on the bottom molding as well adding to the shortness.
@sodakmodelcars Жыл бұрын
I think the "fill out" problem is where there really creates some randomness to who has issues when another didn't of the same tooling.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
I believe that is true. How many builders tried fitting the window before paint? How many ran into issues after paint? Lots of variables in this.
@daviddanglis7135 Жыл бұрын
I was one of the people who commented on Matt’s video. Your comparison didn't include two kits that have serious window fit issues - the Walmart 2006 issue and Matt's budget series kit molded in yellow. You’re measuring differences in thousands of an inch (well, hundreds apparently) ; in those two kits, we may be talking about a difference of 1/32 or more. But I would agree with you that the fit shouldn’t be an issue in any of the kits you have.
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
Yes. I don’t have a sample of all the various issues of this kit. Plus we could be getting into production quality control issues as well. I had the oldest original issue as well as the newest. Plus a few in between. Would love to have had everyone. Yes it’s hundreds of an inch. Not thousands as I was saying. When I use that dial caliper, its just for modeling. I have a better more accurate one that I have used on my engines and degreeing the cams. The spread of windshield was 2 smallest at .75 and the largest at .79 that is a difference of .04 which translates to 1/25 of an inch.

When I watched Matt's video, I made a wish that someone would do this comparison. You are not supposed to tell anyone your wish, but I went and expressed it in the comments. When you tell someone your wish, it is not supposed to come true, but you made it come true with this video! Thanks for making wishes come true and doing a great service to anyone who wants a better Cameo build. It ain't a Muscle Car, but this is my favorite video of yours so far. The fact that both the Cameos in my collection are Coke releases may play a factor in that.😉
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I like these trucks and the issue caught my attention. I didn't set out to do the video at first, but after looking at my kits and with what I have experienced with other AMT kits. I figured why not. I have stayed away from doing kit histories on many AMT kits because so many of them have been modified over the years. Some like the 63 Shelby Cobra go back as far as 63 and has been issued 18 times. Many changes have happened and the best way to do a kit history is to have one of every issue. Some others I know of like the 73 GTX, That one has been issued many times as well. Tooling is actually the 71 Roadrunner but a new body was added. Then many mods and tooling updates. At one point in the 2000's it had the wrong dash and a single exhaust chassis. Round 2 did fix those issues and it now has more accurate parts and better decals. So some kit issues are only in some runs.

I'd ditch the original '91 issue cab and try and order a new one from AMT, as the original has that horrible slanted door line, I'm working on the '57 at the moment and for the truck bed I'm using wood coffee sticks and 0.75 x 1.50mm styrene u-channels for the metal runners!!.

Say thar ace....that would be 700 thousands and 800 "thousands" not 70 or 80 thousands. 1" = 1000 thousands, anything under 1" would read with a decimal point before it. I.E. .700 would be 700 thousands.

3/4"=.750 thousandths. It's .800 not .080. It's a shame this stuff doesn't fit. I stopped building models in 1972. The parts fit then. LOL Chop the top and the problem is solved.
