I built this AMT kit and converted it to the Mexican counterpart, the Valiant Super Bee. The Valiant Super Bee mount a hot V8 318 (340 was not available in Mexico) with 270 HP, same four-barrel Carter Thermoquad carb and the key feature was the two separated hood scoops with Dixco hood tach above the left scoop.

"Ironically"? It's not ironic at all. So many cool cars, so many cool options, only so much time. I built mine close on the heels of its release - Sassy Grass Green with the hood graphic. No side or tailight decals. Seeing this kit serves as a reminder of the lost opportunity the new Round 2 Demon represents. I was really hoping for a lot of shared tooling with this great kit instead of cloning the cruder original MPC kit. That being the case, it has really dampened my enthusiasm for picking one up. P.S. you made me check those hidden parking lamps on mine and I did replicate them, but mine don't have that subtle amber tint of yours. Also, your the lettering on your tires? C'est magnifique!
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have way too many of these kits and have two kit bash projects with resin Demon bodies. As for to many projects. I am way guilty of that. I buy a kit, think of all the possibilities then pick one and write notes and parts needed for project. Collect them or even another parts kit. Put notes on the outside of the box for that project. And now I even have a spread sheet on the computer so I don’t buy a duplicate. But that hasn’t stopped me. I could probably do a whole video on just that! I had to put notes on the outside as I have many of the same base kit. I think I have 10 Revell 69 Camaros.

Awesome! When growing up I had a neighbor that was kind of a church goer and preached a bit. Even as a kid it annoyed me, but he had a black primer 71 Demon. @TheMuscleCarModeler2 жыл бұрын
Thanks you! I know the motor was underrated. Just interesting that 70 and 71 had the same rating but 70 was more powerful. The 71 got cheaper heads and manifolds and a weaker carb. The heads got the same bigger valves for 71 but not for 72.

I have built about five of these over the last 24 years. Some of the fitment issues turned me off for a while (the windscreen and the backlight - not exclusive to this kit - aren't the best. The decals are junk, too). One of the easiest fixes to get the interior to seat into the body is to sand-down the interior side of the upper portion of the doors. The as cast body had an impediment which causes the interior door cards to hang up on that edge. 340 engines produced from May - July 1971 are all "1972 Blue", regardless of which car received them. One of my complaints about the otherwise great kit engine is the absence of the breather (right valve cover) and PVC (left valve cover). Additionally, installing this engine in as - is form in a 1969 & earlier vehicle requires a reworking of the valve covers to be correct.
@TheMuscleCarModeler2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I have not seen a blue 340 in a 71 but have seen an orange one in a 72. I understand that engine production changed over earlier than the vehicle did for the model year. They didn’t want the assembly lines waiting on motors if they could help it.

Thanks. That is a tough one. They all have good kits and some that I would not recommend for a novice. Best advice is to google a kit for comments or reviews before buying.
