This is the most amazing Filming of a P42 set I have ever seen. Love the Amtrak content. The weather was beautiful! And I am quite excited for the new locomotive, but sad to see the P42 go..

Thank you for the comment! That really means a lot to me! Glad I had somewhat adequate lighting for these shots. I too am sad to see the legendary Genesis P42s go, but they have served the communities quite well, and I'm sure the next fleet of locomotives will do the same.

The P-42’s served well over the years. A few will be kept for museums around the country. But, it’s time for a change. Question is whether one ALC Siemens will be enough to pull a nine car train set on the Zephyr. Can’t wait to find out.
@andre100BNSF3 жыл бұрын
Indeed these will be missed. But they have served a long life with Amtrak and have served the communities very well. The ALC-42s are rated the same horsepower as the GE P42s however. We shall see!
@liqueweave3 жыл бұрын
Probably, but generally not advised. The Pacific Surfliner has a short 3.0% grade but Donner Pass has a substantial section of 2.7% (below Emigrant Gap). Freight has helpers but clumsy for Amtrak. Horses and effort curve aside, grip can be an issue, particularly during the grimy seasons. Being out in the wilderness for many hours means redundancy is preferred. Not to mention going easier helps preserve the equipment. Habitual excess power enables adding random stuff without doing the hard math, or having different power rotation per season.

I like it. Perhaps we could call Phase VIII the REDWING Scheme? If the 300 is how they will indeed paint them all? I like it! But desire for all passenger cars, except for Surfliners, Amtrak California, etc to revert to Phase III. At present, am nor very happy with leaving some cars in other paint schemes, but all brand new equipment, plus all rebuilt Viewliners into Phase III. (!!!) LET IT ROLL WITH PHASE III ON INTERCITY!!!
