Southern California got an absolute rare treat this week. Santa Barbara County got hit with a massive rainstorm last week that flooded a large chunk of the 101 freeway between Carpinteria and Ventura, CA. Mud and debris currently has the section of freeway closed down. Because of that, people who normally drive and are now forced to use Amtrak until the road opens back up. Because of the dramatically increased ridership, Amtrak didn't have enough equipment on hand to help prepare them. Amtrak has borrowed 9 (now 8) Amtrak California passenger cars and the 2 P32-8W's that switch in Oakland. Seeing as the equipment might not be here long. Railfans came from all over SoCal to capture the 2 locomotives in action before they were sent back up to Northern California.
