Very nice perspective of a trip that I have taken so many times! I especially enjoyed seeing the interlocking and trackwork just before entering NYP.

It's crazy how much stuff is underground at Penn Station!
@dustin68046 ай бұрын
Before Moynihan opened, the entire station was underground! It was Amtrak's only fully underground station. It is also like a mini-mall down there, with a lot of shops and restaurants

6:57 The opening credits to the 60’s TV show “That Girl” were filmed on this stretch and played in reverse to look as if the train was heading towards Newark. The station at Secaucus Junction did not exist back then.

Good catch. If you look closely at the freeway to the right, you can see the traffic flowing backwards.

Nice video - I took that trip many times from EWR to Penn Station in the 80s and 90s. I just loved the journey, though Penn was hardly a grand ending. Fortunately Gotham was just a short walk from there!

the infrastructure in this region is astounding. other than the old portal br , its been holding up well for its use and age. just so appealing to the eye. i never get tired of it. the remains of the old penn station are in the weeds along this stretch. if you look hard you can see them out the window (not on this vid) , pieces of facade and columns

At 16:30 there is an open area of the extreme West Side just before entering the station, I used to see this. These days, even on the regional, I never see it. It's interesting that you can see all the way to the end of the tunnel until almost reaching that area, (well past the NYS line, over 3 miles) after going up in elevation slightly. When will the rail systems dig another tunnel and where?
@YuqiLinux5 ай бұрын
Not sure about the tunnel, but the open area you mentioned used to be more open in 2014 and I could see the NYC skyscrapers on the train.
@jboushka5 ай бұрын
@@YuqiLinux How did they close it, and why?
@YuqiLinux5 ай бұрын
@@jboushka I actually have no idea. I just noticed the difference on my rides.
@Hypestrike15 ай бұрын
@@jboushka The open area you described was a open cut located between 9th and 10th Avenues. It was decked over in the mid-2010's with a large platform that supports the Manhattan West development above.
@mariotorres62874 ай бұрын
@@Hypestrike1 Yes, you are correct. The south bound train used to emerge from beneath the Farley Post Office before the tunnel (or enter the open area after the tunnel before going beneath the Post Office if going northbound), since decked over to construct Hudson Yards.

Thank you for making me nauseous in the beginning. *NEVER EVER SWING THE CAMERA FAST*
@YuqiLinux5 ай бұрын
If I didn't swing the camera fast I would have missed the door closing scene. You're watching a video on a moving train what are you expecting?
@JayseGreene5 ай бұрын
You really need a lesson on how to properly film on a moving train. You should have been aiming at the door for the scene or not film the scene at all. The faux pas you made is evident that you are a digital film novice. Nothing to worry about, just brush up on how to film on a moving train. Good luck! @@YuqiLinux
