@derekyuen47734 жыл бұрын
Amtrak121 Amtrak needs to go modern if they intend to still capture the market and be seen as a somewhat viable form of transportation. Having traveled on both European and Amtrak (Amtrak more frequently since I often use it to commute on the weekends), the European trains are lightyears ahead in comfort then the outdated and aging Amfleets ( or as I call them Amcans since they look like a soda can )and horizons which are even more of a joke.
@amtrak_1214 жыл бұрын
Derek Yuen I never said modernization was a bad thing, but iconic traditions are a good thing as well. It’s important to have a mix of old and new
@amtrak_1214 жыл бұрын
Derek Yuen I don’t want Amtrak to be too like Europe because American railroads have their own style and looks. You know what might happen if every train just modernized? They would all end up looking the same
@derekyuen47734 жыл бұрын
Amtrak121 Lol all American trains are somewhat generic looking already, most days it’s a consist of GE or EMD North American wide cabs. And Amtrak and the commuter rails have a pretty standardized fleet of rolling stock already. The last vestiges of iconic American rail travel vanished when the last of the “Heritage fleet” were retired (besides Scenic railroads and VIA) . Most people want modern efficient European style passenger trains with the expected comfort and could care less for the looks. Thankfully Siemens is there to answer the call. Any consideration of EMD as a viable competitor for passenger rail has temporarily vanished ever since the F125 fiasco among other things and GE probably views the passenger locomotive business as unprofitable.

Amtrak is now ordering 83 trainsets from Siemens to replace their Amfleet 1 cars and I have little doubt that the trainsets will be made up of Venture coaches since the long distance locomotives that they said were ordering from Siemens were the Chargers.
