I love your videos and all the work you put into them but I always like to consider the back story. How did what started as an exhaust fire escalate so much? Did the crew not follow the prescribed fire procedure? Here in the UK the procedure, I believe, is to shut down the engine and pull the fire suppression. I also believe there is automated fire warning and suppression.

Breaking News:An Amtrak Train with a lead Locomotive has caught fire! At around 3:00 P.M., an Amtrak train abruptly stopped in the middle at a crossing because the lead Locomotive caught fire, firefighters and EMS with an ambulance, firetrucks and rescue helicopters arrived to the scene at precisely 3:10 P.M. All passengers were able to evacuate the train while firefighters were able to rescue 20 animals, those being 10 dogs and 10 cats, which the owners of each pet pleased the firefighters for their honor and bravery. Amtrak sent a GP38H-3 Locomotive to remove the burned loco for repair and repaint.

Diesel doesn't burn that easily. More likely to be a leaking cylinder in the engine but it is coming from the exhaust so it is even more likely to be a blown turbo charger. Yes, trains need turbo chargers too.

Onlookers could do nothing but watch the crew bake like potatoes in an oven. BN doesn't use the high-detergent oil as specified, so the turbos burn up and cause the fire that you see. The crew were baked potatoes by the time they opened the hatch. Slow baked by a locomotive aptly called the "Toaster Oven".

GUSTAVTIME......Great video, but somewhat UNrealistic. Stopping on the crossing was good... gives the fire dept. and emt's easy access.... however, the train should have been stopped Before the crossing, and quickly uncoupled from the unit, by the head-end conductor or 2nd (back-up) engineer if utilized, then proceed if possible... to the crossing, and the prime-mover thrown into emergency shut down mode. Thanks for posting.... and keep them coming.
