[ Amtrak Train Ride ] Complete Trip Report, Amtrak Superliner Coach Ride and Discover All 16 Stops!

A few random notes... I have ridden the Cap both directions, several times... The Eastbound, morning trip from Pittsburgh to Washington is really FANTASTIC. The trip up the Yough valley is beautiful in the morning and the train gets you into DC somewhere in the early afternoon. The westbound trip often does this section in the dark so you don't get to appreciate it nearly as much... The Connelsville, PA station is really nice now. Amtrak rebuilt it in the 2000's, and, while it doesn't have a staffed waiting room, is a nice place to embark/disembark and to watch trains. (The station platform is right at the entrance to the Connelsville yard...) The current Pittsburgh Amtrak station is a whole other story: it is truly wretched, which is sad, because the old, historic station is right next door and is now a private condo building.... That trip across Sandusky Bay is really pretty, and when the train is running on time, in the dark; the delay probably helped you there... From Cleveland to Chicago, the Lake Shore Limited is supposed to follow the Cap pretty closely (time wise). You can often see people waiting on the platforms for the Lake Shore as the Cap is pulling away... The tracks used to run all the way up to the platform at the Elkhart station; they took them out a few years back. Opposite the Elkhart station is the New York Central museum; Elkhart was a major hub for the NYC. The Elkhart station is another great place to watch trains; it hosts a couple of "VirtualRailFan" cameras you can watch on KZbin...

A very comprehensive & enjoyable upload to watch. I have only had traditional dining on the South West Chief so was interested to see that Captial Limited has a Dining/Cafe car & no Observation Car (although given this is only an overnight service, unlike SWC, perhaps it's not an issue?). Thank you for sharing.

sorry about the vary long delay at the beginning but great trip ride along video on this long distance train nice little inside and out side tours walk though too awesome to see heritige 130 on your train too

Every time I see someone post about Amtrak, I immediately remember how cool of a experience it is… If they made the service better, people would ride it more often… The freighters got to play nice… lol

There used to be a time when you could enjoy a nice meal in the Dining Car of the Limited with fellow travelers. Now it's microwaved garbage that's thrown at you by a sleeping car attendant.
