Hawaiian used to fly their A330s from LAX to Kona and that was the best domestic flight I have ever been on.

This 717 have kind a unique late builds of the aircraft, the overhead windows of the cockpit is removed after it was standard equipment since first gen DC-9

While I'm certain there are individuals who will purchase one of the first classes seats on any of the routes flown on 717's between the islands, they are most likely for those "First/Business/Premium Clas" passengers connecting through Honolulu or Maui from the mainland or other points of origin outside of Hawaii flying on a single itinerary. Hawaiian does offer a "First/Premium" class product on their Airbus A330 & Boeing 787 for long haul and this simply allows them to offer a "similar" level of offering from start to finish for their customers.

I agree about the first class seats, unless you are connecting to a longer flight. I do wonder if the a220 would be a good replacement for the 717.
