Try not to go when the cruise ships are in. It is horribly overcrowded! My wife and I went this past December and didn't even bother getting out of the taxi. Even the bars were lousy with people. Plus, it was high tide, which made it even more cramped. Oh well, at least we saw a few planes take off on the ride out. Next time, we'll plan it better.

Absolutely love Sint Maarten. Been there twice with my wife and of course, spent the majority of our late mornings and afternoons hovering around the bar at the Sunset Bar and Grill keeping our eye on the surfboard with the arrival times of all the flights coming in. Stayed both times at the Sonesta Maho hotel, a mere stones throw from Maho Beach. Was absolutely heartbroken to see the devastation after Hurricane Irma which passed directly over the airport. Met a lot of pilots at the poolside bar during our stay, two of which remain friends of ours to this day. Met a JBU pilot who spent most of his layover flirting with my wife and getting so pounded he decided to dive head first into the pool that is only about a meter and a half deep. Didn't work out so well for him and wonder how he explained the third eye on this forehead the next morning to his captain when they prepped for their return flight to JFK. Great memories.

I noticed when I was becoming slower, missing some items, was harder keeping up with new technology and mainly accepting non-flying scheduling and politics. So I retired early in 2016 at the age of 59. I had decades of flying many different jets including and mainly in all variants of Challengers from the 600 to the 605 and the Global Express. My message is that I really miss the yankin and bankin and commanding the aircraft and crew. I don’t miss the bag drag to all the hotels and time away from family (though some were great getting away).

@@TheChallengerPilot The most nerve racking plane stack I did was a Global Express 5000 behind a Gulfstream 650 in a hangar that was only 120' wide. I had to swing the nose of the Gulfstream under the empennage of the Global to get them both in the hangar and I had to get permission to get closer than that 18" because it was only about 10" of clearance, but I got them both in there and my boss was pretty happy that I did it and nothing got damaged.

I'm a non pilot but I agree, coming in on finals and he's more concerned about mobile phone taking footage than monitoring all inside the cockpit and outside the aircraft. If he really wanted footage he should just have asked the co pilot who seemed to be recording with a head mounted go pro. I hope aviation authorities see this and issue serious reprimands to the left seat captain.....
@slowsteve34972 күн бұрын
I am a pilot. All I see here are too very professional pilots working well together. These pilots also went to the trouble to film this and posted it for us. This benefits all of us. I’m not aware of any rule that would prohibit the captain from recording the landing unless it’s an airline. It also seems like English was not the native language of either ATC or the pilot. Yet their communication was perfect. The whole point of reading things back is to make sure things are done right and catch miscommunications.
@jacquesmertens33692 күн бұрын
I'm not a pilot but I fully agree. He restricted his own sight on the runway and was totally distracted. If I did that in my car I'd lose my driving license for a few weeks. This guy is supposed to take responsbility for the lives of a few hundred passengers.

I can say I was twice on that beach, in 2009 and in 2013, the landings we can see are quite scary, especially when some 747 land, people get the jet blasting them into the ocean, quite scary, I didn't dare to do that, each year people die there because of the configuration of this area, I think they should close that beach area and put it into a restricted zone for safety.
