3:09 the camera shook! That just shows the power of this locomotive. It’s an astonishing 250,000 pounds just the locomotive itself. I love being able to see my favorite train on camera and I hope to see it in person next year!

Imma be that guy. The fact that Warner Brothers won’t let 1225 use the Polar Express name and paint scheme when other railroads and museums can even though it’s the genuine article is a tragedy. Same goes for the Castle Class that was in Harry Potter.

“Legally distinct North Pole Express” hits harder than it should considering 1225 ran with “Polar Express” lettering for over a year until the movie company told them to stop
@justinyoung10910 ай бұрын
Honestly the fact that WB won’t let 1225 run the name even though it is a credited star in the movie is a tragedy. While I love what WMSR 1309 has done with the name. 1225 deserves to be called the Polar Express the most

@1chuck969 ай бұрын
I'm a little confused myself...The 1225 ran with the name from day one, (as far as I know), then, anybody with Steam or Diesel powered trips saw the success that SRI had and copied it !?! Trademark infringement ??? Probably, but how do you copy write a "term" rather than a business or trade product?

This may be a hot take, but I prefer 1225 with Sierra Railway no. 3's whistle, rather than her actual whistle. It just sounds a lot nicer in my opinion. Also it's cool to see the MITrain gallery cars and ex Amtrak Hi-levels kicking around on the SRI.
@railsandracing10 ай бұрын
I really liked how her whistle sounded from the late 90s through 2008. I would like to hear her sound that way again. It also would be cool if one of these days she could carry a Lima 5 Chime as a guest whistle.
@justinyoung10910 ай бұрын
I actually agree to an extent.
@cowcatcherstudios575910 ай бұрын
The reason that 1225's whistle sounds like soggy garbage is because the whistle must be fouled in some way, it's meant to be a 6 chine and I put a recording of in in a spectrogram, it only plays 3 chime. It's a Nathan 3 chime lmao
@amtrakpepsiproduct160510 ай бұрын
@cowcatcherstudios5759 I mean, it doesn't sound horrible, it's just not very fitting for an engine like 1225 IMO. I've also watched the Polar Express so many times, so I'm a little used to Sirrea railway no. 3's whistle I think.
@railsandracing10 ай бұрын
@@amtrakpepsiproduct1605 I agree that it doesn't sound horrible. In fact, it sounds almost exactly like how the 765's whistle sounded from her first restoration in 1979 until 1983. I've also heard some recordings of Nathan 6 Chimes from the late 50s that sound similar to how the 1225 sounds today.

How "cool"would it be to have the Marketing GM's at CN / GTW relax their "sphincter" muscles and allow 1225 to pull a trip-or-two over the Holly sub. pulling SRI's manifest? I mean how hard is that? You, (1225), pull out of Detroit, run to Durand, (like in the old days), and wye it back to Detroit on a week-end? I'm not sure, but the Holly sub. "ain't" exactly the Northeast corridor and with the demise of the GM Pontiac plant IN Pontiac MI...what else are ya'll hauling except groceries. Your thoughts?

MAN !!! I got to tell you, (as if you haven't noticed) your rail and roadbed is looking a "little" thin and with all the trips ya'll pull throughout the year...it'd be a SERIOUS tragedy if the '25 split a switch, or turned a rail over and the whole thing rolled over into a ditch. I love 1225 / 765 and don't want to see anything happen to her or the people who ride behind her. Your thoughts?

I have a love-hate relationship with steam engines. I think they’re gorgeous and a piece of history worth preserving, but I also think they shouldn’t be in service anymore for environmental reasons.
@kristoffermangila9 ай бұрын
Well, there's one way steam locomotives can cut down on emissions - convert them to burn oil, specifically used vegetable oil. #FEC148 (owned by US Sugar Corporation in Clewiston, Florida) has been using used vegetable oil from diners in the surrounding area for a few years now.

A steam locomotive nobody likes the movie so nobody likes it
@Mxulin9 ай бұрын
um, thats false. Even if you don't like the movie, admit it, this is a beautiful engine
@kristoffermangila9 ай бұрын
@@Mxulinyou're right! This is a classic design by the Advisory Mechanical Commitee and built by Lima Locomotive Works for the railroads associated with the Van Sweringen brothers. There might some minor details that differentiate #1225 to #765 and #2716, but overall, this locomotive is a classic AMC Berkshire.
