Actually One Eskimo released their version in 2009 under the title "Kandi", in tribute to Candi Stanton who released it in 1970. I clicked on this because I really like Candi Staton's rendition, but she is definitely NOT "the original". That honour goes to Harlan Howard, whose 1961 recording led me to Candi's 1970 single.
