Seth, my favorite English teacher once told me there are too many amazing books out there to waste your time reading something you don’t like, but always give it at least two chapters and never be so stubborn that you’re unwilling to come back and give it another try later in life. Advice for reading Russian classics: Get yourself a list of the characters and each of their twentyfive different nicknames and formal names. It will save you trying to keep track of all these persons and then a couple of hundred pages in realize that the 75 persons are really 23 persons, but by now you are not quite sure which of them are really the same.

I feel this. Usually when I don’t finish a book, it’s because I simply forgot I was trying to read something that didn’t engage me in a lasting way. When I’m *actively* considering DNFing a book, though?
