🐼 💘 I'll go with Wing Chun cause It's an art I've trained In, living In NYC I was fortunate enough to train with one of Sifu Moy Yat students. So I'm from the Moy Yat Ving Tsun lineage of the art 👊.

I started my martial arts training in college and then found Tracy's Kenpo during their early years. Bruce Lee influenced the Tracy brothers so I have to say JKD. I use some of the Wing Chun system, but I'm mostly self taught. I'm basically a martial arts mutt or a Ronin as I see it at this point. Do you do BJJ yet?

Hi Amy you don't know me my name is Edwin. The reason I am commenting is because you left out the histories of the other martial arts such as taekwondo, hapkido, kendo, Ninjutsu, kickboxing, judo, aikido, Okinawan kobudo, iaido capoeira and modern/contemporary wushu/taolu

People in general will talk a whole lot of crap about Bruce Lee saying, *he wasn't a real martial artist, he was only a actor.* The man himself has a impressive track record of people who challenge him. And beaten! He revolutionize how action film's should be produce, instead of that wire Fu crap? He influence natural ability instead. Freed mind's from the enslavement of styles and think about the non complexities of martial arts and to take what works for you, as a individual. The man himself was wise beyond his year's and ahead of times. That's why he one of the most influential human being In the world. His reputation run's higher than Forbes magazines.

Hi Amy, Great video as usual, I would have liked JKD featured solo in it's own episode. 😕 Here are some other unique features in the history of JKD. Bruce Lee realizing the limitations of being locked into one style, (Wing Chun) and the pressures he faced in trying to openly teach, were the basis of him formulating JKD. The JKD philosophy of absorbing what is useful from other styles. Also the Long Bch tournament that exposed other styles and martial artists to JKD/Jun Fan. And finally, thank you! I'm loving the series, what you are doing is incredible on so many levels!

good video Amy : ) something many people don't realize is JKD was also significantly influenced by Olympic style fencing which shouldn't be too big a surprise as his older brother Peter was a Hong Kong colony fencing champion in 1958, boxing also had a big influence on Bruce Lee, and while Yip man's lineage for Wing Chun is most famous like many Kung Fu styles there are many different lineages, that can be quite different including using different forms or not even using forms. A good overview for some of these lineages is the book complete wing chun written by Robert Chu, Rene Ritchie and Y. Wu

Great video! My Mum studied Wing Chun for many years before moving to Isshinryu karate. It’s really interesting to see how she’s combined the strength of karate with the fluid movements of wing chun ( making her a formidable sparring partner) . Really enjoyed learning more about the history of the style hope to see more soon!! (Krav Maga maybe?)

Hi , ive been practicing jkd 10 yrs , its one of the fastest styles i know , you learn to strike in the fastest way possible ,jkd thought me also the less strikes you need the better , and like you say , where would the martial arts be without bruce lee, without yip man there wouldnt be bruce lee , without bruce lee there wouldnt be jkd and we wouldnt have the knowledge today without the birth of jkd back then , nice to see u again miss amy grtz from 🇧🇪❤

@@Dragonflyjones67 but it’s base is wing chun. but it does include stop hitting, slips, weaves , jabs and looping hocks. I mean your somewhat right abt the revolutionize part but it still would have evolved into Jkd. bc of wing chun and you also forgot about wrestling, judo, ju jutsu and kali

Hi Amy! I took your advice and watched Ip Man. It was awesome. I’m not a student of martial arts, by any stretch. So I have a question for you. Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun from Ip Man. Knowing that JKD is a fusion of various martial arts, how much of JKD is derived from Wing Chun? Personally, I like watching Wing Chun better than JKD. I like the more fluid moves. But I think JKD suits Bruce Lee better since he had phenomenal twitch muscles.

Well,I'm not Amy,but if you allow me to answer: Wing Chun is pretty much the ''foundation'' of JKD,but Bruce Lee added many other techniques from various styles. Bruce studied, trained and analysed over a dozen different styles, like Korean Hapkido & Tang Soo Do,Shotokan and Okinawa Karate,Jiujitsu, western Boxing,Philipino Arnis/Kali,Greco-Roman Wrestling, even fencing! He also was constantly adding new stuff and encouraging his students to create their own version of JKD. The only ''rule'' he gave his students, was to use anything, that is effective, discard what doesn't work for you. JKD became his own style, even though Bruce didn't considered it a ''style''. Oh and about the difference in movement, between JKD & Wing Chun: Wing Chun is based on the principle of defending and counterattacking,JKD is based on counterattacking on the spot, taking the opponent out, with as less movement as possible, hence the name ''Way of the Intercepting Fist''. If you watch Bruce Lee movies,he takes out the attackers with one or two moves, tops. One punch or kick,K.O. no fancy moves or forms at all.

The culture of Wing Chun may be more appropriate, the video didn't go much into the oral tradition. One variant of Wing Chun's history that has been told is that the woman which it is named after was the firs student of a shoalin monk who escape her monastery after is was sacked. The monk, wanting to provide a style of fighting more applicable to close and direct confrontation (my guess is that being invaded has something to do with that desire) decided to streamline what she knew about shaolin kung fu. After watching a crane and snake fight (that's where some of the magical realism comes in I believe) she chose those two animal forms to be the inspiration of what she would pass on to Wing Chun. So yea, it has shoalin roots, according to some stories.
