Going further into the backstory of Anne. The darker elements. Really brought out who she was and why she was the way she was. Why did she long to find a friend or a family. Why was she heartbroken at the thought of not having one. Why was she an avid reader and one who is constantly imagining life differently. Making up a fantasy world. The desperation. She never had parents. She never had anyone to love her at all. No one. She considered herself ugly. Her red hair a life long sorrow. Green Gables and Matthew and Marilla are her life line. Diana is her one true friend. Finding them allows her to come out of her shell of existence and provides her with greater security. Finding Gilbert allows her to understand that she is not ugly.

But I think that her character is so lovingly heartfelt and special. I hate when people say things are because of past problems. More like this is Anne and seeing her past makes me glad she stuck with what a beautiful person she is, I know it's just a character but there's a lesson in her. And the idea of which she is, is something to admire

Amybeth is so articulate, observant and full of personality it's easy to see why she won this role. This series is excellent. I spent just about every sick day of my childhood watching the original series on old worn out vhs tapes. I never thought I'd see a better version made. I haven't finished the netflix series yet but I am loving every episode so far. I love that it goes deeper and a bit darker because it makes much of the story and characters more understandable. It's not a concept that would have done as well years ago but I'm happy to see the story told with such detail now. I'm so happy that an entirely new generation is being introduced to the same wonderful group of characters I first met as a little boy. Everyone connected to this project deserves the utmost praise and gratitude. you've taken something I have always treasured and made me appreciate it even more.

Amy Anderson Same! In the books, Anne can start out grating, but as she matures, her quirks grow on you and her personality becomes better. It's very similar in this series (which is book accurate, lol) with how Anne becomes more likable and grown up as time passes.

I am quite frankly in awe of this series and of Amybeth's portrayal. I was nervous about watching Anne With An E at first due to the deep connection and fondness I felt for Anne in my youth. I was afraid the show wouldn't do justice to the Anne I've loved so dearly for as long as I can remember. Turns out Amybeth, along with the show's writers, have created a brilliantly nuanced Anne who has blown me away. Their Anne has surpassed my wildest expectations. I devoured every episode and can't wait for more!

This young woman was simply incredible in that role, I really didn't know how old she was in the beginning. She was able to bring the emotions over and over with tears, and how one does that I don't know. This is the 3rd time this program Anne of Green Gables has been shown since 1986 I believe and by far this is the best one. I wish I knew more about her and I wish I could her how very much she pleased me and my friends as there is so much dark programming on netflix and hulu. I wish her good roles in the future.

Let me ask, have you seen the Megan Follows version? As much as I loved that one I think this one is better. Many people who prefer the Megan Follows version simply cannot abide by the changes that have been made with the added material and not sticking to the canon of the books, so I am interested in hearing from those who have seen both and enjoy this one as much or even more than the other one from 1985/87.

Yes I have, and the Avonlea series as well, which I loved. Still prefer this version to Anne of Green Gables, which I feel is much more "Disney-fied" and sugar-coated compared to this gritty realistic version. We all have our preferences! I'm a fan of anything that accurately portrays the societies of the 1800's.

Angela Hockett 100% agree....I love how she portrays Anne as someone that hides. I like that she fell apart when Marilla didn't want her. That seemed real. And I liked her very real anger at Marilla too, when she was thrown out for stealing when she didn't. I think it is realistic in that time that people as well to as The Barry's would be hesitant about letting Diana be friends with Anne, because orphans were treated like garbage. I like the honesty about what Anne was exposed too as well. Hearing rape, getting beaten...and as Matthew said, she is not like the others at school, she is broken. I like the awkwardness too. And I like this version of Ruby. People that only accept the Megan Follows version, don't get that that version didn't follow the books either.

Somehow people overlook the changes that were made from the book and often assume the film is spot on in following the book. In my case, I saw the film first and then read the book and found how much was changed. But then with each viewing I gradually forgot about those changes. I'm betting a lot of people who love the Megan Follows' film haven't read the book so they don't even realize there are a lot of differences from the book.

Keith Popko i have watched the megan follows one..i loved that one..right now i still like it more than this one but this new one is really growing on me. I think everyone who watched the first version are just used to it and sometimes change is a bit hard to accept. This verison to me is a bit more "softer"..what i mean by thst is that the characters are not as "mean" as in the first version..in the megan follows version it felt like marilla was not nice at all..and the way i remember it, is that it seemed like marilla didnt like anne at all and that she was a miserable old woman. Where as this marills is more soft. I like this version and i think im slowly starting to like it more than the first.

Je suis moi même orphelin, atteint d’une maladie grave, en quête de mes parents, amoureux de la poésie et souvent TROP sensible, et cette identification m’a réellement bouleversé. Le jeu d’acteurs, pour un jeune âge, est grandiose! Vraiment, bravo! Et ils expriment ce que j’ai toujours voulu dire: Ouvrez vos esprits, considérez chacun comme une autre histoire, ne remettez jamais en question votre légitimité, et ne mettez jamais de frontières à ce que peux exprimer votre amour.
