Not sure Jamey Johnson really counts as underground, but certainly there are more of the wanna-be pop singers than there are Jamey Johnsons and Chris Stapletons. This phenomenon is not new, by the way. Guys like Willie Nelson and Waylon left Nashville because the powers would not let them record their music. I watch a documentary on the Willie Nelson album "Red Headed Stranger" and one record company executive said, "I still want to edit and produce that album". That specific album is on most list of "top all time" and is STILL selling. But they still want to change it! That is what the Jamey Johnson's of the world are up against!

I'm glad Jamey and a few others still do country music that has the feel and soul that makes it the common man's music..I don't even listen to the radio stations around here anymore it's sad to live 20 miles from Nashville and not be able to find a real country station
@frankmaxfield70254 жыл бұрын
I'm right there with ya brother if it ain't Jamey or Chris Stapleton I don't want nothing to do with this modern day garbage coming outta Nashville. It's a shame with the talent that went thru that town back in the 90's to see how far removed from country music it's all became these days. I live about 40 miles east of Cincinnati in a little town called hamersville. Literally ain't even got a stop light or even a stop sign in town. But we've got quite a few so called country music radio stations that come out of Cincinnati and at least 2, 1 being B105 that's been around since at least the late 70's or early 80's and the 94.1 the Star that's been around on 1 fm frequency or another since at least the early 90's that I won't even put on my truck radio anymore. We have 2 fm frequency's being 106.7 and 105.9 which are owned by the same station and play the same songs with 1 station being a few min ahead of the other one that play classic country music which a lot of it is the great music I grew up listening to in the late 80's and 90's and those are the only 2 stations that play in my truck unless I'm on 700WLW am talk radio getting current local news sports and politics from some pretty good disc jockeys one of them being Bill Cunningham which is the same guy that had that talk show or whatever it was on TV there for a few years awhile back. But I couldn't listen to that garbage that comes from these new singers wearing their flat billed hats that think they rappers and country singers. Ain't no such thing as a country rapper. Nashville full of all these confused assholes that don't know if they wanna sing rap or country so they try and mix it together and Nashville tries to shove down our throats which ain't gonna happen to this hillbilly. From what I see it ain't gonna happen to a lot of other folks either. So Nashville can keep that bullshit down there in Tennessee and stop sending it up North this way. Us folks around here like to keep it country. Y'all down south call us Yankees but most of the folks around here got deep southern roots that got us ended up north here because our grandparents left the south back in the 50's and 60's to come up here to Cincinnati chasing work to make a living for their families. So they brought the south and it's traditions here up north. Were as country as apple pie, beans, cornbread, and fried taters and grits. You won't have much luck taking the north south but my papaw brought south north.

I've not listened to country music since 1980 but folks.. That's a damned country boy and you other bubble gum country (singers?) could and SHOULD learn a lot from this cat. I'm a new and HUGE fan of this artist! Great Shit Mr. Johnson.. Outstanding!

Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Zach bryan, Sturgill simpson, the steeldrivers, Charley Crockett, Nick Shoulders, and last but not least Cody Johnson ---I'm sure you've heard at least one of these boys but if not you're in for a treat. You might not like all their music but you'll find at least 2 gems a piece I'm sure
