No pyrotechnics, no smoke and mirrors. One instrument, one voice and it absolutely kills. Modern country spends a lot of time and effort covering up the fact that the talent isnt there. Jamey is outstanding

Such a beautiful song,,, I Buried my bestfriend my Vietnam vet March 15 2020 , no visitors no sermon, stood by my truck as they lowered him into his grave at the National cemetery in Pruntytown WV . Covid has taken so much and lives of many many more. He may be gone from this world where his demons chased him halfway around the world , many of times I set with him under the kitchen table because in his mind he was back in nam , I never uttered a word other then sat quietly with him until the panic and flashback was over. What I wouldn't do just to set quietly once more with him. He's left his demons and he's at peace but I miss him every day.

I HATE the shinedown version & turn it EVERY TIME! I will say that the only reason I clicked on it is because I like Chris Stapleton and I knew but if anyone can do any good covers of Skynyrd it would damn sure be this man! Good God! This man did it justice and then some! He needs more credit for this song! I will also say this for that man up there picking... he SERIOUSLY deserves more credit cuz he's TOTAL fire on that sucker...he need a little more recognition because he's got an incredible amount of talent and is a very skilled musician! It wasn't really a Skynyrd song. Ronnie recorded it during a late night, early morning recording session with Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special playing dobro. Around 10 years after the plane crash a few surviving members of Skynyrd added some overdubs and it was released on the Legends album. The original version is also available commercially.

When people say “He/She could sing the phone book”, Jamey Johnson is the epitome of that.

I would also you know where I'm from there must be a lot of really strange people because people thought I came up with the song and I'd have to show them who really did it because they allowed us to MP4 players in there and it is one of the songs I did buy and I'd have to show people that I just and come up with something this great I can't write music I love music I would not have made my time if they didn't allow us to have radios all that time would have been doing me instead of me doing the time I'm so grateful they allowed to stand music in there because I would have probably ended up killing myself
