It is so funny that I found this conversation. I started soaping about a year and a half ago. Eve’s Garden… one of your videos was the first I ever saw, and I absolutely loved your swirls. There is a video, it is a spring soap, that I keep going back to. I have watched you do that soap so many times… it is just so beautiful to me. Really beautiful, and I learned that ultramarines have to be dispersed in water.

Thank you, Cindy!! I wouldn't take that as a hard and fast rule. It's always good to test a small amount of colorant in some water to see if it dissolves or not. I've found discrepancies from supplier to supplier on the same colorant. 😀

Now with your mixture for the navy since it is the primary color of the soap, will this produce a blue lather as well?

You might think so, but I did some testing and it was only slightly gray.

How do you know how long to emulsify?

Are you asking how long to blend until it reaches emulsification? Because that varies from batch to batch. You just have to blend in short bursts and do a lot of hand stirring until you see that the batter is holding together on the stick blender shaft or the back of a stainless spoon.
