MY BOOK FINALLY ARRIVED 😍 I’ve watched soooo many soap making videos and some looks so easy and others, not soo much 🤣 I came across your videos and spent a whole watching video after videos and taking notes. I thought to myself: someone who actually makes sense. I suffer from migraine headaches and I can’t stand strong fragrances. I love the fact that you only use all natural ingredients and essential oils. I can’t wait to make some of the soap for your book! Thank you Simi and Troy!💝

Hi there and thank you! The recipes in the book are all made for a 2.5 lb mold. All ingredients are given by weight in ounces and grams and we include oil percentages as well. Everything you need to enter the recipe into a lye calculator is also included, so you can easily resize the recipe. I hope this helps!

Hi Simi, I am new to soap making and would love to learn more. I am looking for a good soap for sensitive oily skin and another one for summer to give as gifts. What would you suggest? One of your recipes that are on for sale or a recipe from your book?
@muddymintsoapАй бұрын
Hi there! The book has far more recipes in it, for a great price, so I’d probably recommend starting there. There are plenty of recipes for sensitive skin (I think most of the soaps in the book would work well) and there are some fun summer soaps like Lemon Cake, Wildflower Garden, Lavender Lemonade, Flower Child, and Milky Rose (among others!). I hope this helps!

Do you recommend another coconut milk that is 100% coconut milk only ?
@muddymintsoapАй бұрын
Great question! I don't know of one that is 100% coconut, but once I find a good replacement, I will let everyone know. Most coconut milk has a bunch of extra ingredients in it, so for now, I still like this Aroy-D one best.

Lye lint to be strained before adding to oils. Is it needed. Can you make a video on it. Thank you
@muddymintsoap2 ай бұрын
Hi there! We do strain our lye water, mostly to catch any large chunks that might be sitting on the edges of our lye-water container. Honestly, I never did it when I first started making soap and only started doing it once we began batching our lye-water. It's just routine now and we always strain it when we measure it out (rather than when we add it to our oils). I hope this helps!

Hi ! I realize my soap take too longer to be hard. Is it because of the amount of caustic soda please? I use Mendrulandia app to do them. Thank you in advance for your answer!
@muddymintsoap3 ай бұрын
Hi there! If your soap is taking too long to harden, you do want to make sure your lye amount is correct, but if you're using an app to calculate it, then it should be good. You never want to change the lye amount, as that is a set amount based on the oils. It could be that your recipe has too much water in it. How much lye are you using and how much water? Do you know what your ratio is?
@pablo69803 ай бұрын
@@muddymintsoap for 398gr of liquid oil (olive, coconut, castor, jojoba, almond), The app gives 109g of water for 51g of lye . What do you think about please?
@muddymintsoap3 ай бұрын
I think that sounds reasonable, but if you're having a hard time unmolding, try using less water (maybe about 90 grams of water instead to start?). I can't tell if you have the lye amount without knowing all the oil amounts, but I'm assuming that your app calculated it correctly. What's your superfat?
@pablo69803 ай бұрын
@@muddymintsoap My superfat is 8% and my concentration is 32%.
@pablo69803 ай бұрын
@@muddymintsoap For the soap I made before, I didn’t really have this problem. But I thought I used too much oil in my new soaps. For my next soap, I’ll try to use only 3 oils (olive, black castor and coconut) to see. I could avoid mixing almond oil and jojoba oil with the others.

I see that you use 50/50 lye solution . Or for me I usually use The lye solution depending of the amount of oil use.
@muddymintsoap3 ай бұрын
Hi there! The amount of lye doesn't change. You should always use the amount of lye required for the oils that you use in the recipe. Using a lye-water solution just allows you to pre-mix your lye ahead of time so that it's always ready to go. I think the term 50/50 lye water can be confusing. You you'd like more information on this, we have a video explaining how it works here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHOuppmOmLaMo80

The EO description sounds nice. I seen your other video on folks that have purchased your book that are having trouble with the recipes turning out. When you say the recipes in the book are ones you created just for your book, they are not the recipes you have made throughout the years, they are not tried and true recipes? I made two of them and neither turned out. (I mean no trouble by asking these questions:)
@muddymintsoap3 ай бұрын
Hi Sherry! Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you asked! I've heard from far more people that have made our recipes successfully - hundreds in fact - than people who have had issues. One soapmaker has made 28 of our 31 recipes, so I know that there are no errors in the book. Remember that I made all these recipes several times myself and checked them carefully. We also sold all these soaps to our customers. While these are not our "bestselling" soaps, I think they are actually better because they were created by me after years and years of making soap, so they have a lot more experience put into them. I think that you might be seeing comments from newer soapmakers that are having issues with the recipes, or perhaps from soapmakers that are inadvertently doing things incorrectly. For instance, it is hard to know how long to stick blend your soap if you're new. There are also temperature considerations. Some people are using accelerating fragrance oils in their soaps. Some poeple are using the wrong amount of lye, as they find the 50/50 lye water part confusing. So, I highly encourage you to email me to discuss whatever issue you're having. I've helped a TON of people figure out what the issues were, and they went on to have successful batches! I really really want you to be successful! Please email me at muddymintsoap at gmail dot com and I'll help you out. By the way, if you check out the reviews for my book on Amazon, you'll see that a lot of people had successful batches and many have posted pictures: amzn.to/3uIOFN0. :)

I love watching your videos!!❤I’ve seen all of them at least once!Always so informative,,,as I’ve just started out my soap making journey a few months ago🧼🫧 I’m trying to soak up and learn everything I possibly can from expert soap makers like yourself and others,,to be able to put together a wonderful product I can be confident in selling. Well, a couple days ago while looking for Fall season🍁soap ideas, I came across Holly w MORIVERSOAP, and she was making a soap she said YOU had inspired her to make from your book…it was Pumpkin Maple Soap…so, I thought, How Fun! I decided I NEEDED to make a pumpkin puree soap too! And after watching THIS video, wanted to also add a cocoa pencil line to give it some interest, as this was going to be an unscented soap for folks like me who have skin sensitivities. It turned out GREAT, and was super fun!! Please keep your videos coming,,,and Jsyk, yesterday I hopped on over to Amazon and purchased your Natural Soapmaking Handbook!😃❤
