Lyrics:
They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, but I won't go, go, go
I'd rather be at home with Ray
I ain't got seventy days
'Cause there's nothing, there's nothing you can teach me
That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway
I didn't get a lot in class
But I know it don't come in a shot glass
They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, but I won't go, go, go
The man said "Why do you think you here?"
I said, "I got no idea"
I'm gonna, I'm gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near
He said, "I just think you're depressed"
This, me: "Yeah, baby, and the rest"
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I don't ever wanna drink again
I just, ooh, I just need a friend
I'm not gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I'm on the mend
It's not just my pride
It's just till these tears have dried
They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, but I won't go, go, go

Today, I saw the movie about Amy. And suddenly, every word, every line she sang hit me like a freight train. The pain, the booze, the loneliness-it was all there, right in her life. She didn't just write about it, she lived it, breathed it, poured it into every note. Her voice, man, it wasn't just singing, it was crying, laughing, screaming. She took all that hurt and made it something beautiful, something real.

I remember when this came out. I was very young and I used to sing this all of the time. Crazy how I just thought it was a catchy cool song. Meanwhile this woman was singing about her struggles with alcohol addiction. Then shortly after this passed away. Now as an adult the look in her eyes is sad to see in this video. RIP Amy

Yep. , described as a very lonely person. Then all the Fame further isolated her. Imagine being lonely as a normal person, then shoot to Fame and at that point, everyone is a yes person and wants a piece of you. Poor girl. I think not trusting and not having friends pushed her to drink even more.

@@lucindawinehouse2002 - She's wearing hair extensions, but her own hair is very nice. That beehive she should have left in the place where she bought it from. It was not 'becoming' on her at all or anyone else for that matter back when it was popular not just with celebrities but many everyday women as well. She could have made her trademark with something else. (I'm no fan of Taylor Swift, at all, but her trademark is the red lipstick she always wears). That beehive did Amy 'no' favors at all.

People forget how young Amy was. She’s 23 years old here, telling her story of how the record label thought she needed rehab when she was 22. Most 22 years olds go out and drink, get their hearts broken . It’s easy to see why she thought she didn’t need it (at the time). That she thought she wasn’t any different to any other 22 year old. She thought she had it under control . 💔

Amy was one of the few celebrity deaths that actually got to me. And not just because we suffered so many of the same problems (BPD, anorexia, bulimia, alcoholism, drug addiction, depression) but also because WE ALL KNEW all the problems she had and collectively watched her decline for years and nobody did anything to help her. The line "And my daddy thinks I'm fine" is actually really, really sad.

I lost my world, my 32 y.o. daughter, the morning before Thanksgiving. She called me "daddy" to the end. I never understood her struggle, but knew that every sunrise was a victory. I loved her unconditionally. She was to go to her 4th rehab, this time for at least 9 months. I found her, no, I was led to her from beyond. She's near me now, love doesn't die. @Clayton Catlin if you watch the documentary you can clearly see her considering it, but her dad discouraged her from going (because he just wanted to continue exploiting his daughter’s talents) he brought up loads of things that she would miss, including a concert that she was contractually obliged to do (which she didn’t even want to do). People always said that the people she loved most didn’t love her in return. Her dad included. She turned to drugs and alcohol to ease the pain of the life she never wanted (her boyfriend was the one who turned her to drugs in the first place, which again shows how the people she loved were the worst for her). Sorry if this seems rude, I just wanted to add to your comment
@HeatherChandlerBQ
@HeatherChandlerBQ 3 жыл бұрын
Also, her dad was rarely around when she was growing up, and her mum never really told her off for anything, so she grew up never receiving backlash for her actions and doing what she wanted. Though you could argue her death was her own fault, you need to consider how she grew up and the people that surrounded and ‘supported’ her. Again not trying to be rude though.

The night before she died Amy said, "If I could give it all back, and walk down the street with no bother, I would." I think fame was a serious problem for her, it likely exacerbated her personal insecurities in a way she never learned to cope with. So talented, yet so humble, a rare combination in entertainment. Blake, in an interview about his relationship with Amy, described her as "one of the loneliest people he'd ever met." Perhaps that's part of why she took their breakups so hard, without him she literally had no one to hang out with for days or weeks at a time. Such a shame, she seemed like a genuinely loving and caring person. RIP, Amy you & your music are both so incredibly missed.

Her first manager wanted to get her to rehab before she got famous and released back to black but she didn’t go because her father said she didn’t need it. Nope. She should have been the ONE person who wanted the best for her. She made her decisions. I miss her music more than anything and wouldn't wish death on a 27 year old woman with her life ahead of her. But I've also seen people who actually wanted to recover, and did. She didn't get the chance to recover because of her choices. Active addicts want everyone to believe it is something they have no control over. They do.

actually the long term success rates for rehabs are pathetic... it doesn’t work MOST of the time especially with opiates. It depends far more on the person and where they’re at internally (I’ve done well in the four years since I went to rehab but most people I know from there have not).

For all the trolls who knew nothing of Amy Winehouse, she did happen to go to rehab multiple times throughout her life. Some things aren't curable. If you know nothing of addiction, do not judge. How about acknowledge the talent not her troubles? We all have troubles after all. She was an adult, she made decisions, you are all adults you can make the decision to not like her music, but what's her personal life got to do with you today? Nothing really, stop judging, go find something productive. Because I'm a fan regardless & she has many. Bye.

+woozworld ayeo It could have, she simply went to late and was allowed to enter rehab with destructive forces like her boyfriend of the time who never wanted her to recover. This song was written before the much of the drug abuse and when many of her friends were still apart of her life and much of the self harm was done through drinking.

I never saw her. I know before she moved in her house, she was having renovations done and some of the neighbors weren't really happy that she was moving in. People say she use to walk around the neighborhood but I didn't see her. And I had to walk past her house to catch the bus and I never saw any activity outside her house. It was always a black SUV really dark tint but other than that...I never saw. There was a Portuguese restaurant in the neighborhood that I use to go to all the time and they say she use to come in there all the time because in the back, they had pool tables and they say she use to come in there to shoot pool. I wish I'd met her because I was such a fan.
