Howdy All! 👋
Well, here is Suzuki's A2 compliant 1000cc!! 🥵
The GSXS1000 with some serious mapping restrictions to mean you can ride this on an A2 licence!
Do you guys and girls think this bike makes sense when Suzuki have the SV650 for A2 riders?
Let me know in the comments! 🖤

Excellent first walk round the bike Kate. Interesting move by Suzuki but I'd be more confident of it's success if they'd confirmed that it could be fully derestricted to 150 bhp when applicable. The hardware (although a step down from the 1000) would be perfectly able to cope with the full power.

Interesting vid and bike Kate. As you say who is it aimed at? Well one group you missed was guys like me, older riders, no longer bothered about having 150hp (been there done that) not worried about rider modes either (we grew up on analogue bikes that control was 100% in your hands) so if the price is right then these might be an alternative...they're now knocking these out new at £9k so that is really interesting. Given that the GSX8 has now landed probably not around for much longer!

All K5 motors are 130bhp ARW,(Moore's Mafia),and it cost the exact same to get ALL K5s to 150 at the wheel...given old stock ones are as low as £7500,it's the one to go for,set it up for way for less mulla, cartridge fork inserts,etc! I believe cruise control is available also,from the Aussies? Best of the bunch, for value!

We don't have these in America. Probably because we don't have the weird license stuff going on. Here you start with a permit, which allows you to do everything but ride passengers and ride at night/ go into neighboring states. Then you get your license which allows you to do everything. There is no Horsepower restrictions. A first time 16 year old could be riding a S1000RR around. Wouldn't recommend it but it is possible lol

The value equation is tough to rationalize. The 1000 gives you much more power and a lot better spec for barely any more money. Better off just getting one of the many excellent A2 bikes on offer, then move up to the 1000 when you get your full license, IMO.

Mmmmmmm novel idea from Suzuki, I guess the additional production costs must be outweighed by the (potential) market for something like this. As it’s essentially an existing model, you’d assume those costs are fairly minimal, well relatively. However, I do wonder if they’ve come over all ‘Honda’ and introduced a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. I guess time will tell. Thanks for including this review though, Kate. Great job. 👍

Very interesting video although I'm not exactly sure what Suzuki are up to here as it seems a bit wide of the mark to me. Why discontinue the GSXS750 to make a strangled version of the 1000? Presumably cost but I'm not sure who's going to buy one, especially if it can't be derestricted. With that said, if it's electronically restricted, I would've thought it could still be liberated fairly easily but with that spec I'm not sure I'd want 150bhp. I personally don't think this will be around long as it seems a bit of a dead end to me.

@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 Жыл бұрын
@@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145 Agreed, that 750 engine is great & I understand about Euro 5 issue but what I meant was, why didn't Suzuki make the effort to update to get it through Euro 5 instead of just neglecting it & then they wouldn't have needed to make the GSX8S. Also if Suzuki were insistant on discontinuing the GSXS750, they shouldn't have bothered with GSXS950, as the GSX8S could have had the same 94bhp where as they strangled it so they're not too close to each other. All seems rather strange marketing to me but soon enough I would presume the GSXS750, & 950 wil be gone, along with SV650 too so it'll just be the GSX8S & the GSXS1000.
@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145
@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145 Жыл бұрын
@@ragerider6283 I guess the bean counters at Suzuki decided that the 750 wasn’t worth the investment and focused their efforts in getting the 1000 through. I think the K5 1000 will die with Euro 6… which is why the parallel twin was so important.
@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 Жыл бұрын
@@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145 Maybe so & I'm sure there are things going on behind the scenes at Suzuki we have no idea about. It's also obvious that the parallel twin engine & frame are cheaper to produce than the i4's so that makes sense but heir naked bike range seems still seems cluttered & strange to me. Also the GSXR1000 was already discontinued in Europe for this year if that's what you meant by K5 1000.
@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145
@eskemeldgaardkrogh4145 Жыл бұрын
@@ragerider6283 I really meant all of the K5 derived 1000s - which these days is limited to the GSXS950 and GSXS1000 (and GT) after the GSXR1000, as you noted, also failed to make the Euro 5 cut. The new parallel twin is clearly a much cheaper bike to produce... but to me, it's more like an inflated GS500E than the GSXers I grew up lusting after. Frankly, I'd much rather pick up a used GSXS750 with a Yoshi than go for a new GSX8S. I'll eventually test one, and might yet be swayed... but I don't think so!

@UsernameKate
@UsernameKate Жыл бұрын
It was to open it up to the A2 licence holders in the UK. As they are limited to a bike that has 97bhp if they wish to restrict it to 40 odd bhp for their licence requirement. They wouldn't be able to restrict something with 100 + horsepower. The more powerful version of this is the full fat GSXS 1000. It looks like that but with gold forks and lots more bhp.

interesting! I just found out, late I know, that KTM is bringing back to 790 duke with an A2 compliance capability. Could this be a new trend?

@@chrishart8548 yea haha I haven't posted ANYTHING about the 03. It's an old one, not the new 300. This is a scratty 660. Hoping to take it to 3 sisters track for a mess around!

@@UsernameKate I remember those way back has the xt660 engine. Makes similar power to the mt-03 300cc twin but at much lower rpm doesn't really go much over 6k rpm do you remember the old srx600 or the sxr660 yamaha love trying to put a big single in different bikes the last bike is like a supersport but it was bit down on power on paper. They may have a had a sxr660 (singe) trx850 (twin) and r6 (four) all out at the same time. And all sports style bikes.

94hp from a 1000cc 4 cylinder, well that's something! And that something is not very good. Why would anyone buy a liter bike with power of 600cc from 20 years ago?

Bart makes a good pitch for the same licensing scheme in America, to the effect that we could save a couple thousand young lives a year. Worthy goal? Hummmmm.

@@UsernameKate I've never had mine kick in. But I guess that's a good thing I have activated the ABS on the back wheel. But at least I know it trying to lock up. Without abs I end up locking up the rear wheel without really knowing. You're getting so good now you have gone full time at this it's great getting more of you.
