Björn wrote the lyrics after their separation while drinking whiskey alone. He then took the song to Agnetha asking, weather it would be too painful for her to sing it and she gave it some thought and decided she could do it. To me it`s not about cheating, but one missing the one who left and has already moved on. Fantastic song and vocals. Absolutely stunning vocals. Another great break up song: When all is said and done, which was included in The Visitors album and has said to be the break up song for Benny and Frida, who had divorced recently. Also fantastic lead vocals by Frida.

It was considered as a 'happy divorce' or smth.Meaning it was a conscious civilized situation.But as Agnetha stated there's no 'happy divorce' anyway.this is a front.As she said You can't live with someone for 8 years and not feel anything.'It hurt,it hurt badly" were her excact added words.In this video making there's footage behind the scenes where she was all happy go lucky" but when she performed for the camera i think she felt emotional.She loves this song and when she was presented the lyrics she went teary but when she was asked if it's ok to do this she agreed to do because it was such a great beautiful gem.

I only knew of this group from Sweden, from 1976 on..............when they released "Fernando" and it became the "Song Of The Year" in Portugal for that year. Even though they had won The Eurovision Song Contest, 2 years earlier, I only found out about them, when someone let me borrow the album "Greatest Hits".

In a relationship usually one of them make a decision and says: It's over. Before this person make his/her decision he/she made a long/short time of process in his/her head while the other one doesn't realize this process and sees everything okay in their relationship - probably this person is still has love towards the other. So this sentence "It's over" is a shocking thing for the loving person while the other one was thinking about it for a while. In this situation the shocked and still loving person feels that he/she lost everything at that moment (the looser) wkhile who decided about the end of the relationship has clear mind and plans about the continue, maybe with a new partner (the winner). I can think about these when I am listening this song even if I am wrong.

@@sds6303 They both tried hard to save their marriage but finally didn't make it.Btw It's not the only Abba song that that refer to that period but more than this in Bjorn's rather cryptic lyrics ."If it wasn't for the nights' was another one and i could distinguish some hints also to ...'As good as knew'' that lyrics describe regrets but also determination to fix things again (which didn't quite happen in real life).And oximoron thing is that they are both groovy tracks (from 1979) but Abba were a lot like that in many of their songs.Diverse combination of happy music with sad themed lyrics.

Very clever lyrics, I love the line "Spectators of the show always staying low" referring to mutual friends keeping their heads down so they aren't seen to be taking sides. There was infidelity on Bjorns side, he did find someone else pretty quickly who happened to look very much like Agnetha and she was hurt. This was towards the end of the group's life and although she did record a lot of solo stuff with average success, she did kind of become a recluse for many years during which her life wasn't paticularly happy.

It's a divorce song still it isn't meaning that the lyrics obviously is about a realtion that is no more. Most people assume it's about Agnetha's and Björn's divorce/breaking up. They say it isn't and Agnetha has said when she recorded the song "you sort of had to act". Still you can't overlook the fact that the song came when they in fact were breaking up. Whether they fully admit it or not the cirucumstances did affect the song and its lyrics.Björn said he was so impressed the way Agnetha sang the song, how she managed to not break down. She says it's her favorite ABBA song. When they officially quit in 1982 it wasn't like a official break up of the band. They said it would be a hiatus which happened to become 40 years long but it's a different story!

Writing this song and forcing her to sing it (he used lawyers & contracts when she didn’t want to have to sing about his version of her pain). He’d already left her for the other woman and after this she left the group. Making her sing about being the “loser” was cruelty that justly blew up in his face. She gave this song every ounce of pain she was feeling and make it legendary and he did not fair well in public opinion. She was able to walk away as much of a winner as anyone could be in a situation like that. She was betrayed and lost what she loved most but at least his attempt to make her feel small didn’t succeed and the relationship didn’t last.

According to their own words 'Growing apart' and pressure from fame were the main reasons for their seperation (as they both confessed ) that took place in December 1978.After this the group toured and worked together since late 1982.Bjorn and Agnetha both tried hard to save their marriage but didn't make it.They were both loyal to each other and no cheating or court cases were involved till the end.Bjorn moved to a new life after it was over with Agnetha."Nothing more to say"..
