First time I was blessed to see Matis was Coachella 2006. I was born and raised in the desert. Never left. I had just had my second son, I was 23. My husband and I LOVED Live at Stubbs so we were so happy to see this amazing talent as the sun was setting on that hot April day. Life got so busy. Raising boys, working hard. Life’s ups and downs. We always played Matis while raising our boys. Fast forward to this past May, we were blessed yet again after all these years to see he was coming to our Joshua Tree area to a place called Pappy and Harrietts. Middle of nowhere in the desert and absolutely a magical place to see a show. This time was even more special because we brought our boys. Now ages 13 and 18. They finally got to experience the man they grew up on, live in concert. It was mind blowing. Can’t quite put it into words. Whole band of artists just killed it. That night left me absolutely dehydrated and needing more. I thought, how lucky am I to have seen him in these different evolutions of his life and career. When I see ignorant comments about his image my eyes can’t roll further back into my skull. I’m not that same 23 year old girl as I am now as this 36 year old woman. Your supposed to evolve. It’s human. We are all blessed he’s shared all this with us and himself with us. This is why I refuse to have social media. Quite honestly the only reason I read the comments on this video was to be able to relate to others that have the same love and admiration for Matisyahu as I do. I was spiritually, emotionally and mentally stimulated by the desert show so I booked another show for my family to see an hour away in Riverside, Ca just this past Wednesday the 14th of August. The auditorium wasn’t maxed out at all but the vibe of the crowd was ELECTRIC. You can tell when it bounces off the artist. Matis was dancing and his vibe was so strong. Just then.....he had performed my favorite song. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite cause they are all undefinable. But if I HAD to pick it’s Ancient Lullaby. I had yet seen this live. When I play this in my car or at my home I dance, twirl, throw my arms up and just let go. So you could imagine when I saw this live, and the way he did it, in its entirety, plus the vibes of the crowd.....I’m pretty sure I had a transcendent out of body experience. I had a really sweet man in a wheel chair in front of me, right up front, stage left so I had this absolute window of vision where I swore my soul collided w/ his in that moment. Ok, reel it back in Athena. I’m not talking in a horn/romantical way. Although he is a beautiful specimen, he’s married and so am I. Respect the boundaries. I just mean, he has a gift in order to reach a soul like that. When the lights came on, and the voice went out, I was left numb. I literally drove us home and didn’t speak a word b/c I was trying to process it all. I’m not ashamed to say I immediately looked to see when I could see him again. Wouldn’t you know, he’ll be at the Rise Up Fest in Heber, Ut this Saturday and my husbands cousin lives there. We’ve been meaning to get out there for a long time, check out his new Restaurant “The Old Goat”, but you know, life is busy, excuses get made. Well guess what, my 18 year old just got sworn into the United States Coast Guard and will be shipping to boot Oct. 1st in New Jersey for 8 weeks. Longest I will ever be away from him. It will be sad, hard yet we are so proud. Our close family dynamic is changing. I’m making every moment count. So I said fuck it. Pack up fam, we are going to Utah. Not only to see Matis, but slightly stoopid who’ve we also been listening to for YEARS and have never had the chance to see. AND we get to have some much needed family catch up time. So thank you Matis for being a light-worker. I have been to hundreds of concerts but I’m completely moved to another level. Now I get why my mom followed around the Grateful Dead. I get it. I haven’t felt this inspired and connect to an artist since I was a little girl in love with MJ, who hung on every word and still cry to man in the mirror to this day even though I’ve heard it 8 million times. Stay lifted in this crazy world we live in. And if you ever get burned out and never put on another show ever again I will understand and will be able to die a happy person knowing I got to experience you as often as I have. See you in Utah. And thank you to the videographer of this amazing show and for posting it on KZbin. I couldn’t sleep early this morning and just laid in bed w/ this in my headphones. It’s thanks to people like you I get to revisit shows and enjoy them b/c I refuse to pull out my phone during concerts. I have to be 110% present. Peace! Love and Light! Namaste! 🕉♒️✝️✡️💟 ~Athena

Today you experience life as a human in the desert. In another life you will be born by a river, another life by the sea and finally the greatest life: born by a mountain, where the MIND explores higher states of being as mountains are almost eternal and they they have great secrets to tell (to those wanting to hear)... Once you’ve lived all such lives, you are done!

Music transcends all boundaries that humans have created. Be it religion, race, sex, and everything else imaginable, music touches the soul. I am a Gentile/Christian yet it does not limit the positive impact Matisyahu has had on my life. His music helps keep me alive and positive despite the many hardships I endure. I only recently discovered this live show and I feel I have unintentionally deprived myself of such a healing, HEALING, performance. I thank God for Matisyahu and the wonderfully talented musicians he works with both live and in the studio. The Bad Brains are one of my absolute favorite bands along with Matisyahu and they are similar to me in the many ways they heal my broken soul. I thank God every day for all the positive things I have in life and I am grateful. I would love one day to be able to meet Matisyahu and thank him for helping keep me alive and positive. And I would ask for a hug. Brothers in God. Sorry for the long comment. Sincerely, Jason McVey.

NICE.. I, for one, happen to love the great logic in the lyrics, along with the great music. Listen to the message given and don't stone the messenger.
