Hey actor! If you’re still hunting for the perfect fit monologue, I’ve put together a collection of my favourite Shakespeare monologues sorted by casting type and general vibe. Makes it easy to pick one you love and another one to contrast. You can find it here: shakespearewithsarah.com/shakespeare-collection/

Welcome back! Great stuff! I assume you’re familiar with the wonderful John William Waterhouse painting of this?

Thank you Tim! No I hadn't come across that painting actually, but I think I'm about to go down a The Tempest rabbit hole (sounds like a bit of a mixed metaphor 😂)... starting with your videos on The Tempest, which are in my "To watch" list! I never loved The Tempest, mostly because Prospero always seemed like a criminal jerk to me, but I think now that I'm a parent I can understand a bit more of his decision making.

@@ShakespearewithSarah Ha, I guess there is an element of wanting the best for your kids here, but you’re right. I love Tempest for several reasons, but none of them is that I find Prospero a particularly lovable guy. He has his complexity and internal struggles, which are interesting. In fact, all of the balance of power struggles are rich and interesting, even Prospero with Miranda. (Look at the million times he asks if she’s listening in his very next speech.) And of course, there’s the complexity of Caliban, who is so awful and so sympathetic at the same time in true Shakespeare fashion. I especially love that this play is so musical, and that Shakespeare’s new forums allowed him more opportunities for musical arrangements than his early plays. Between all of Ariel’s musical magic and the rough drunken music of the Clowns and Caliban, this play accomplishes musically what Shakespeare only alludes to in earlier plays. Have fun going down the Tempest rabbit hole! I look forward to watching what you create in response!

Hi Sarah, would it be possible to make a video for Lady Constance from King John?

Is it possible to do Jaques from AS YOU LIKE IT??

Oooh I'll put it on my list - might be next month though, I'm just catching up on some editing. Do you mean the famous "All the world's a stage" or "I met a fool in the forest"?
