In this video I will formalize the thought processes many Randonneurs use to plan and succeed at Brevets of 600km or more as an easy to use Formula!
This is not a new discovery but simply a way to help novice Randonneurs understand how the more experienced go about planning how to ride these incredible distances.
In the next few weeks I will attempt to post an interactive application on our website www.randonneuring.club that will help you to plan and visualize the individual components of long brevets.
I hope you find the examples in which I try to apply the formula to various brevets helpful in your own endeavours.
We intend to apply this formula to the 600km brevet we will attempt this coming weekend and longer rides in coming weeks.
I am certain there will be aspects of the formula that I should explain better, so please don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments to elaborate or clarify if you need.
I have once again filmed the entire video on my trusty old iPhone 12 and edited it with the standard iPhone software.
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for taking the time to read this description.

That's great! I was not thinking about segments for longer brevets until now. It makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

When you are actually out there riding for hours and hours at a time it’s amazing what you think about. Breaking long rides into segments just makes it easier for me to visualize and plan my strategy. Best wishes for your brevets

Well done Regan, really clear explanations of the formula. It would be interesting to see a comparison of historical riding speed declines for riding brevets of different distances.

I am certain you are correct Blair. There must be a decline in average speed with progressive increases in brevet distances. This may be easier to assess in Saskatchewan where the elevation gain is minimal. However, the unpredictable strong winds may be a confounding factor. I will work on this in a future video. Thanks for the comment.

I am glad you found the information to be of value. I will try to produce some videos of application of the formula to various brevet distances.

It's easy 600km is 36 hours tops with no sleep. Then if doing a 1200 km audax just ride 36 hours sleep 8 hours and ride another 36 hours that gives you loads of time
