So, I'm actually here because I just saw your recent vid entitled, "Most HEPA Air Purifiers are a SCAM" & thought it was really well done & researched & was considering subscribing. Subsequently when contemplating subbing to a new channel I like to back track to their earliest vids to see how a channel started & get a retro perspective on their "evolution" from that point, etc. This was just a very basic, straight ahead, apparently effective (I neither live in a cold climate, or own a car, but when both were the case I never experienced problems with mice in my vehicles... that I was aware of) & informative debut that shows a guy with a problem & how he solved said problem. Nice job. I'll be subscribing after this posts. 👍👍👍

I've had a lot of luck using those have-a-heart traps to get the mice that raid my car now. They seem to scare the mice to death about 40% of the time, but I've been able to relocate a lot of mice successfully (very far away). Another thing that's seemed to help a lot is dryer sheets. I don't use dryer sheets in my laundry (because... poison) but I heard that mice don't care for the smell and I tried shoving them into places like the glove box and other areas that vent up under the hood and that seems to have helped too. Thx for the video!

The mice that were where I lived when I made this video were tenacious. They were strong, rural mice in a very cold town, 1500 feet up. Deterrents did not work on them in the slightest. Maybe deterrents work for others, but not me unfortunately. Glad you liked the video!

You hit the nail on the head exactly with that reply. Every situation is always a little different. I'm at only about 1000 feet where I am now. Fortunately, the car they wrecked was due to be traded in anyhow. But I dare say I might have gotten a slightly better trade in price if I hadn't driven onto the lot with the hazards blinking uncontrollably due to the wiring damage. ;)@@HealthyHomeGuide

I have a garbage can with a few inches of water in the bottom. I use snap traps, live traps, and glue traps. Live mice are relocated to the swimming pool in the garbage can.

Just curious, if you place 4 traps, one on each tire and catch 4 mice, what if there is a 5th mouse? I won't be able to access my car for six months once it stored to check on this. Do the dead mice deter subsequent mice?
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide 9 ай бұрын
Great question. If you won’t be able to access your car for six months, I would set multiple traps on top of each wheel. But spaced a bit away from each other to reduce the chances that they set each other off.
@HealthyHomeGuide
@HealthyHomeGuide 9 ай бұрын
@@user-zl1fz4qm3f Agreed, if we’re supplementing the traps on the wheels. But to be clear, I don’t recommend putting traps on the ground ONLY. You’d have to cover the entire perimeter of the bottom of the wheel with traps, because mice can climb onto a wheel from all around its circumference: the front, back, or sides. Putting traps on the tops of the wheels is better, because mice cross over a smaller area on the top of the wheel in order to climb into the rest of your car. If you target that area, you’re more likely to catch a mouse, using fewer traps.

@@HealthyHomeGuide I understand it did not work. I’m more worried that I already sprayed it on my car and worried about long term damage since I sprayed on it

The spray is just tiny droplets of water & oil that won't hurt anything if they freeze. I would not keep the spray bottle in the car though, because if it freezes, it could split (and then leak when it thaws). I would not spray it on the car's paint. However, spraying floor mats, carpet, most places under the hood, etc., should be fine. 🙂

@david_davidson 2 ай бұрын
Well, with roaches obviously roach traps in the interior, under seats, in the trunk, etc. For rats, whatever trap you use remember two things; rats love peanut butter (it's used to train them in films; eg. "Willard" [2003]) & they are actually smarter than mice. 🐁🐭

@david_davidson I used nest bait twice, and they are still entering, And breeding. I have not found the entrance point and have already sealed what I did find... the mice, are flourishing They stay away from peppermint momentarily, but, as soon as the extract becomes evaporative from the oil, which is about a day, they are attacking the locations it was placed. I am wondering about pepper spray. ...

@@meljane8339 Yeah the guy in this vid even states that peppermint oil hasn't worked for him, or anyone he knows. Have you tried copper mesh? It is an effective deterent people frequently use in gardening & home pest control.

@david_davidson am planning construction fabric (steel) due to costs. Was hoping to start today, but am a week behind schedule in cleaning + tidying. More work than apparent. ... will get pushed back further. They keep entering the garage door when it's open, anyway. Two of three of the types of live traps work better, but I need more of them, as the suckers already procreated by then. The chocolate mint plant garden in my car actually kept pests very minimal, but it died due to momentary neglect. The gardening of Salvias and Capsicum is a great idea and works fairly. *doesn't stop, but keeps populations very low. Vitamin B (consumed in Vegemite by Australians) also works extremely well, corporally...

Yup. On my 2nd insurance claim in a week but from squirrels. Did the exact same damage both times. While my car has been in the hop I've been using my rental as a guinea pig for deterrents. Moth balls have worked, found a pepper based spray (critter ritter). I heard a mixture of apples cider vinegar/cayenne pepper is good. I am an animal lover as well but, I have to go no mercy this time with also rodenticide and peanut butter up in the trees. $500 deductible for $4000+ damage twice.

I'm a mechanic. I don't understand how mice could ruin the engine...., pistons , rings, camshafts, bearings, head gasket and so on..... All of the components that fail and then you need a rebuild or new engine. I understand they can wreck havoc on wiring but destroying the mechanical components of the engine befuddles me. Can you explain please what was the engine damage.

Cat piss. I know it sounds weird but if your car is kept outside or somewhere the odor won't be noticeable..... A few cat litter/urine clumps from your cats litter box.... broken up and spread somewhere in the vicinity. That's one of the major ways rodents avoid predators I guess if you don't own a cat and are willing..... it could be a good laugh to ask a friend? Will probably the most awkward question they will ever get in their life. 😂

This may work for others, but it didn’t work for me unfortunately. I found that cat urine and deterrents in general were not effective. Maybe the mice in my town were especially persistent given how cold the winters are.
