A friend of mine bought these a few months ago, said they're better than his Plex kit. It's crazy

I almost asked last night on the live stream if there were any cheaper options yet. Ordered...

How thin are the microphones? Where's the best place to attach them to an LS3 block?

I’m sure that monitoring for knock is great with electronics but the drawbacks can be headers and high pressure charging causing false positives. If I want to really max out my timing at all rpm’s and loads I do test runs at full loads up to a certain rpm in increments and shut it down and pull the plugs for inspection then run it again at higher rpm or fix timing and run it again if necessary before checking a higher rpm. I recommend this for race setting, for street just aim timing high then back it off 2 degrees from what you find as good so the motor lasts even if your fuel isn’t what it should be. Less work and more enjoyment.

I definitely agree that reading plugs is a great way to verify whether knock is occurring. The spark plug is quite literally part of the combustion chamber so there's no better representation of what is going on. One drawback with this method is that you don't know which part of your map was responsible for the knock. Maybe it only knocked around 3000RPM and then everything above that could take more timing. Using your ears it is very easy to distinguish between false knock and real knock. There's no better signal processing than a human brain ;)

I to agree with reading plugs, but unless you can go WOT and kill the motor and cost to a stop, you really are not getting a true reading on a plug. If you do not go WOT and kill the motor the you get different readings from slowing down and normal driving, so any other ideas on this, I'm open as I have been around racing cars for about 35 years and that is the only way that those guys will read plugs.
