Four most important questions: 1 - Origin - The big bang seems to have been the origin of the universe. 2 - Meaning - Meaning is subjective 3 - Morality - Morality is something that social animals come up with 4 - Destiny - Eventually I'll die. Pretty easy.
@somersetcace18 ай бұрын
Pretty easy except for Origin. The important term there being "seems." Our current working model is fine. It's based on what we can observe and test, not what we can't, however, I wouldn't treat it the way Christians treat the gospels. Nothing wrong with speculating what might be over a horizon, so long as you don't conflate it with fact. Of course, there `being` a horizon, is in no way evidence of irrational god concepts.

If you ask theoretical physicists what was before the BB, most will say they don't know or some have some ideas but the idea that the BB came from "nothing" is far from consensus. When physicists talk about the beginning, they are talking about the beginning of the known universe. Probably most people would say that something came from nothing especially Christians. I personally think it seems likely that there was something before the BB and that existence is eternal. The concept of no thing is a bit of an oxymoron because what would have been the thing that didn't exist. There has to be an is for there to be an is not. What does nonexistence mean without existence? What we do know is that we exist.

House Bill 1403 would require Mississippi school districts to offer Bible classes to high school students. Like Miles noted, it would only be offered as an elective. (2019) “We’re not forcing it on anyone," said Miles. "We’re not trying to hound anyone over the head with the Bible or trying to baptize anyone or do anything that they don’t wanna do.” Kentucky passed a similar bill in 2017, and that’s what prompted Miles’ constituents to reach out and ask for the same in the Magnolia State. 1. Origin (of the universe presumably) - we don’t know 2. Meaning (of life presumably) - subjective 3. Morality - A concept we invented to get along and cooperate as a species 4. Destiny - no such thing.

When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movements become headlong - faster and faster and faster. They put aside all thoughts of obstacles and forget the precipice does not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it's too late.

Theists, I promise you, it's easier to just not believe this garbage anymore instead of twisting yourself into a pretzel trying to argue for theism. Please just set yourselves free.

Could tell from the moment the caller started talking that he's very angry. He probably has serious doubts about his faith and that has him extremely frustrated.

Origin = evolution and physics; Meaning = successful reproduction; Morality = don't cause harm; Destiny = meaningless. Posted by this atheist before answered.

"You don't see slavery in the New Testament." Wrong! “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only while being watched and in order to please them, but wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong has been done, and there is no partiality. (Colossians 3:22-25) “Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, for you know that you also have a Master in heaven.” (Colossians 4:1) “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as you obey Christ; not only while being watched, and in order to please them, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. Render service with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women, knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from the Lord, whether we are slaves or free. And, masters, do the same to them. Stop threatening them, for you know that both of you have the same Master in heaven, and with him there is no partiality.” (Ephesians 6:5-9) “Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be blasphemed. Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful to them on the ground that they are members of the church; rather they must serve them all the more, since those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties.” (Timothy 6:1-2) “Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to talk back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Savior.” (Titus 2:9-10) “Slaves, accept the authority of your masters with all deference, not only those who are kind and gentle but also those who are harsh.” (Peter 2:18)

Jesus & authors of the Bible believed slavery is moral & even suggested how to buy, sell & beat the slaves. No Bible verse explicitly says slavery is immoral & call for its abolishment. Modern Western laws are NOT based on Biblical values, otherwise slavery would still be a moral practice. Secular thinking ended slavery after about 1800 years of Biblical values failure to do so.

Nice, bright, open, conversational approach from the hosts. Can't say the same about the caller.

2:32 Theists can be logical, it's rational thinking that is hard for them. They believe that being able to rationalize their superstitions is the same as rational thought. That's as far as they can go without thinking the Devil is talking to them or something.

The person who came up with the idea that later named big bang suggested by a priest. He was not an atheist by any definition but regardless he was the first person who suggested going back in the time universe goes back to a point.

The lack of imagination here is uncomfortable. If Harry Potter #1 says Harry will die and then he does in Harry Potter #7. Is Harry Potter now a real person or did the author prophesied his death with divine insight?
@MT514328 ай бұрын
The answer to that question is Yes, that is correct; it is devine insigt. Harry Potter is now as real as God. Or to be more precise: Harry Potter is God.

If you have a wrong answer to an important question, you first have to discard it to be as far in your understanding of that question as someone who doesn't have an answer. How is not having an answer a bad thing?

What do you mean atheists don't have those answers? The Jains and some Buddhists are atheists and they have answers in their religions about that stuff. What do you mean those are not the atheists you were looking for, you seemed so content to put us all in the same bag?

FFS Questions for universe creator believers 1. Where was the creator thing, when there was nowhere? 2. If it exists it must have substance. What is it made of? 3. Where did it get the stuff it made itself and everything else from? 4. How did it create the first thing? (Step by step instructions as religious superstition demands of science). Here is the obvious evidence that all gods are imaginary. One two part question for people with superstitious religious beliefs. (A) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that the sun used matches and candles to spread light and heat at night. Would it be obvious to you, how self evidently illogical, irrational, unreasonable and nonsensical this idea was? (Would you understand why)? (B) If someone told you (or you read in a book) that something capable of creating a universe and everything in it, used puny humans and books to spread accurate information. Would it be obvious to you, how self evidently illogical, irrational, unreasonable and nonsensical this idea was? (Would you understand why)? All gods are imaginary. No people = No imagined gods.

He finally brought up my favorite story from the bible! 19:40 The Stone Tablets that GOD HIMSELF carved, didn't last a month! An old man threw them to the ground, and the construct of god himself broke! LOL!!!!! But, better than that, in HISTORY we have the Steele of Hammurabi and it was carved 300 years before the Hebrews wrote the first Torah, AND IT STILL EXISTS TODAY and was only carved by MAN!
