In the 50s my twin brother and I used to play ‘dueling’ with our muzzle loading percussion pistols that fired a cork ball propelled by a ‘Greenie stickum cap’ . Great Fun

Incredible detail. I’m an Airgun enthusiast, and I was blown away when I learned that Lewis & Clark relied on the Girandoni air rifle, and that Native American chiefs were more intrigued by the Girandoni than actual firearms. I would love to see a modern interpretation of the Girandoni, offered by one of the current manufacturers of p.c.p. - pre-charged pneumatic air guns. Thank you for sharing. I’m grateful that these days, high performance air guns are available and affordable to purchase by the average citizen; not just royalty and the wealthy. For those that are unaware, we are presently living in what is being called: “The Golden Age of Air Guns.” The advancements I’ve witnessed in the last 3-5 years are jaw dropping. Two different p.c.p. manufacturers have launched a fully electronic p.c.p. rifle. Furthermore, there’s hardly anything these days, that one cannot harvest with an air gun; from small game to a two thousand pound buffalo. It truly is a great time to be an air gunner; especially in the U.S. . Happy Holidays.

extremely interesting 🧐👍, i do wish that you had gone more into the history, manufacturers dates, calibres, loading process and numbers constructed. I know i might be splitting hairs, but today we call these air guns (not firearms) but when these were made they were known/ called “wind guns” in fact.

Where did they load the springers at, its obvious they were not muzzle loaders (no ramrods)??
@benmayne61592 жыл бұрын
if you look 👀 really closely you can just see the outline of the up and down breach block on the top that would work off the little ball ended handle on the under side 2/3 to the front right where you would normally find the ramrod. it works just like a bot action that just lift’s the breach up, locks so you can load the breach and is spring loaded to hold the breach in the fire position once released.

The only reason I can think of as to why these were not wildly popular would be the downside of 1500 pumps to charge it again. But the capability of 22 shots of .46 caliber balls should have been the upside. It’s an amazing rifle considering the time it was in use. Thanks for sharing this.

Legally and scientifically speaking, there are no "firearms" in this video despite the statements of the presenter. "Firearm" has a very specific meaning in the law and in technical conversation. Simply stated, if there is no "fire" then there is no firearm. Please oh please don't get into the habit of calling any airguns "firearms" no matter how or when manufactured or how they look. One thing we airgun enthusiasts like about them is the near-total dearth of legal restrictions on possessing and using airguns and that results from their not being "firearms" in any way. Let's please not tempt the powers that be into treating them the same. Please. Rifle, yes. Pistol, yes. Weapon, yes, gun, yes. But firearms? NO! "Weapon" is a term that serves perfectly well and has the virtue of being actually correct. Please use it instead of "firearm."
