Your channel is singlehandedly the best air rifle review channel out there. Honestly, the professionalism in everything you do, scripting, cinematography, unbiased reviews...it tops them all. Your effort makes them days when I get back from work shafted, so much easier to get on and shoot after. To get some me time! Invaluable mental tool these vids. Here's to many, many more! Cheers.

I have shot air rifles for the last 54 years. Had a few in my time but my favorite is my BSA S10 in .22. A friend let me try his BSA R10 in 177, what a gun!!, so accurate you could cleanly shot the nuts of a gnat at 30 yards. Trying to think of an excuse to get one!.

Talking BSA - a few months ago my dad handed me his original BSA Meteor and in its original box too. It even has the small bottle of oil that came with it. It still shoots accurately using the BSA scope it came with after all these years and has an oddly satisfying kick though it is really loud compared to my RM8 carbine.

@Ejuice Vaper When I said original I should have stated that it the first ever released model of that rifle (I think 1959-ish). So considering it's all still as it came and shoots well is saying something. And yes, I agree, shooting with open sites and then moving to scope is a good way of developing accuracy as well as patience.

Absolutely brilliant video and I have to agree that the .177 is the most underrated FAC gun in the bag. 18ftlb is ideal for up to 50m (and beyond on a still day ) with very humane dispatch and accuracy, ideal for enclosed barns and round live stock where collateral damage has to be avoided but longer range/terminal efficiency for the pests is needed. I wonder if the possible slugs being talked about in the caliber will finally materialise as this would most definitely put an end to people tittering quietly about the "lowly" .177. Oh and a note about Spain and the 18ftlb rule, yes thats with out Certificate but all Air Weapons are "in theory" banned from any type of hunting or pest control though as with most things there it is a tad flexibly enforced.

THANK YOU!! This is the first time any channel has discuss the issue of the sub 12 ft lb law in the UK! I really appreciate your view on that as well as your explanation of what's going on with the law. I really appreciate your view on asking people to petition their lawmakers if they so choose to and your explanation of what fac stands for and how you all get this FAC designation. I do feel bad for you all that you have to go through this rigmarole just to get a full-blown rifle that the rest of the world is allowed to have. Congratulations with your channel, you do a fine job 🤗😊

Andy even in sub 12 my little air arms s200 .177 was a much preferred vermin tool, often running very close to the limit, and using the heavier choices of pellets it accounted for most of my vermin kills. On a personal preference note I would rather use an Airforce rifle with a .25 barrel shooting either slugs or solid lead bullets for my 100fpe FAC shooting as it is far lighter and has the capability of in the field power adjustment right down to sub 12fpe if deemed prudent. But that's just me and I love casting my own ammo. Any road up your channel is by far the most interesting and informative for us UK shooters, keep up the excellent work.

Just to correct you re the Huntsman Regal Xl....you say the magazine are anti 'double loading'. I've done it many times to the point where I've had to discipline myself....I load just before I take the shot. Daystate missed a trick by not making a slightly larger diameter mag that would have a blank chamber for the last position. The probe wouldn't go in and you'd know you're 'out'. Instead you take the shot and frighten quarry off. I have nothing but praise for the maker of CARM mags who has added a round AND the blank chamber. True, they index onto the pellet but the indexing spring is so light, no damage is sustained. My FAC running at 30'Lb with JSB 18.13. Nice tight groups and with a steady aim, pigeon to 60 yards.

totally agree with the 18fpe for us non FAC holders. Would eliminate many problems for the fans of .177 calibre. Yet another quality video from you 2. I owned a BSA goldstar SE a couple of years back and I thought that the gun was not very accurate. It turned out it was me not understanding how to shot properly. Watching videos like yours helps me to understand shooting, and therefore I have improved as an air rifle shooter using a sub 12fpe set up. thanks Andy and the misses. 👍

I have the BSA R10 SE in .177 cal. I have the right handed Walnut version. Iam getting 50 shots per fill. It shoots 10.34 gr. JSB around 900 fps. I absolutely love this rifle. It can still get 820 fps with the JSB 13.43 gr. Monsters. Thanks brother for your excellent review. I think the UK should change the laws to at least 30 ft pounds. This would be ideal for most. 177, or. 22 rifles. Or unlimited for Air Rifles. Put in perspective. A. 22 long rifle powder burner using CCI STINGER bullets gets 190 ft pounds of energy. Most Air Rifles 30 cal. and under, aren't even half that. Times have changed. Better laws will only increase sales. God bless you!!! From the USA!!!👍👍👍😎😎🎯🎯

Personally I agree *but* I can't see this happening in the UK sadly. In some ways we're lucky to have the 12ft/lb in some countries it's terrible, think in Ireland it's 1 joule! It's especially ridiculous in the UK though as the way the certificate system works it's technically easier to get a 2+1 semi-automatic shotgun than a 20ft/lb .177!
@heithwatkins

@@Ryan.90 I agree. What's sad is that the same people that have a problem with the 20ft pound 177cal, have no problem whatsoever shipping in certain individuals far more dangerous to society.

I agree, I have two sub 12ft lb air rifles. First one I bought was a BSA scorpion se Como in 1.77. Second one was going to be the gun I wanted first, which was a Weihrauch 110 again in 1.77. I have a number of issues with the Weihrauch, loss of power, not cycling and firing. And firing by it's self on safety. The BSA no issues, and it's my go to gun. By the way I use H&N Baracuda Match in the BSA and Bisley Magnum in the Weihrauch. I recently tried Hades. Good hitting power but not very accurate, ok for 15 yeard ratting.

You can easily tune up the r10mk2 or SE to around 25ft lbs, slinging jsb exact beast 16 grains to 880 fps. Get a Huma reg. Set it to 150bar. The R10 has a rear hammer guide. Flip it on to the front to act as a hammer weight(or you can machine a small circular weight), crank up the hammer spring and youre done. You can also get a 300cc carbon fiber cylinder from best fittings as well.

CCI subsonic 22lr 1070 fps is 90+ fpe @ 50 yards , CCI 960 quiets 22lr 730 fps is 40+ fpe @ 50 yards and quieter than the PCP.. just can’t get excited about the big bore air rifles 🤷🏻‍♂️. Well he's loyal to his Country, all 3 are British air rifles and none are by anyway cheap. Its good to see BSA is still in business, I remember looking at their guns back in the late 70's when my Beeman catalog would show up in the mail, filled with high end imported European air rifles. How about Webley, was that the name? I think I remember that being another British company, most of the rest were German made match rifles. . Ill have to check the good old internet on Webley.

I agree 18ftlb would be much better than the present 12ftlb. However I don't believe this would be achievable legally in the UK. As a collector I have had to over look some really nice Rifles because of power outputs exceeding 12ftlbs and the need for FAC. With regards to the BSA R10, this a fantastic Rifle and extremely accurate, one of my favorites too Andy! Great video, really enjoy all of them, excellent research and information, made clear and understandable. Thank you. 👍

Good honest review,i went fac a few years ago and never looked back,i went with a .303 hilite,still stunning but way lighter and with the carbon buddy bottle i can eek out 20 decent shots,my regal has 30 ft lbs and also have a airwolf with 40 ftlb,it was a bit of a tank but took off the heavy 500cc buddy bottle and fitted a best fittings 500cc carbon which transformed the rifle to my go to hunting airgun,i also bought a .25 renegade tactical which i ordered with 60 ftlbs,got it delivered just before they brought out the regulated versions which was a bit silly as the regulator would have gave me another 10 shots 🙁 will maybe get it done at some point.keep up the good work Andy👍

Great video - thank you. I am looking for some advice please and would really appreciate any suggestions from Andy or anyone else. Having shot centrefire and RF rifles for many years, I am now looking to acquire a 22 FAC air rifle. The last air rifle I used was a wonderful Feinwerkbau 124 Sport which was bought 44 years ago! I still own this but I don’t want to bother with maintaining a spring gun anymore and I want something for pest control up to 50-60 metres. I also want something that I can use to introduce my teenage children into target shooting beyond 25m. Fortunately, I have lots of scuba tanks so a PCP is the obvious choice. I need to consider overall length, weight, power, accuracy, trigger quality, reliability and something with pre-fitted sling swivels. I have been looking online at these three models and wonder which one you would recommend when taking into consideration these criteria: 1) BSA R10 SE. 2) Weihrauch HW 100T. 3) Daystate Huntsman Regal. Unless I could borrow each of these for a couple of days I cannot decide which one would be best. Thank you.

In sub 12 I love the. 20 calibre ,its so over looked, I've got two rifles in that calibre and I use them the most, I even shoot hft with one of them, the extra power at distance knocks targets over much better than a. 177.
@Glimpsedshow
@Glimpsedshow 3 жыл бұрын
Neither have extra 'power'. Power is ft/b of energy. so a .20 and a .177 and a .22 and a .25 all running at 12ft/b all have the exact same power. The main differential, especially for HFT, is accuracy. Power as a concept is irrelevant if you cant hit the thing you're aiming at. If you have 50ft/b but you hit the dirt its pointless. Under the UK law - 12ft/b maximum, then the .177 has the highest velocity and therefor the flattest trajectory, which is why almost all HFT/FT shooters use .177

In my country (Poland) to own a FAC rifle you only need to pass a mental test and tell the police that you have one five days from buying it, if you passed the test - which is easy of you're a normal sane person - they cannot say that you can't own one. This being said, the police never checks power of airguns inless they were used in a crime and even if you get caught with an unregistered one, you just pay a moderate fine - so many people who own FAC guns don't even bother with registering them. And I didn't hear about one used in a crime or some kind of horrible incident.

Totally agree about the BSA R-10 it is a cracking rifle it’s accurate and so reliable. I did have the Ultra se in .22 but I traded it in for the R-10 mk2 carbine in .177 after seeing and falling in love with it after a member at our club shooting the R-10 but not the carbine version. So far fingers crossed 🤞 I’ve had no troubles or problems with mine when I used it but sadly I don’t shoot it much any more after leaving the gun range as just got to crazy with so many members and most of the time you had to take turns in 30min sessions on the gun lanes and the club was only open for few hours so didn’t get much shooting in. Shame really as I love shooting rifles. Maybe I should get back into it.

You make an excellent point about the limit being raised to 18ft lbs. I have thought the same for a long while. In fact, I would be prepared to see an Airgun Licencing system being introduced that would make it easier to own Airguns up to say 24 or 30ft lb. That wod give more control over the idiots that misuse Airguns without the onerous restrictions of a full FAC for the vast majority of sensible owners.

Having done some 100m competition shooting - Daystate 303 needs to be single fed. This will significantly increase accuracy. Also changing to the newer all black magazine, (the old one shown rubbish).The old one squeezes skirts too tight. Also only 5 usable shots 230-190bar for sub MOA. Ps. Try FX hybrids, they work surprisingly well.

@@AAROnair Thanks for the reply Andy, I appreciate you not wanting to alienate anyone. As things stand at the moment it has become somewhat difficult to buy a new rifle as most of the dealers are either out of stock or unable to arrange delivery or collection. Many simply are not answering emails or phone calls. I had to email Drapers 3 times and then spend an hour on the phone just to get a very short, curt reply that they were closed until the 16th. It also seems that a lot of the manufacturers are also in lockdown so supply seems to have dried up. I would be interested in your BSA lineup review as I am hovering between a BSA R10 th .22 and the Weihrauch HW110 .22 Both seem to be well liked by most reviewers. I'm not looking for vermin control but I am looking for accuracy in sub 12ftlb Rifle. Cambridgeshire police have vertually stopped issuing FAC licences during this pandemic. The BSA r ten rifles are just as good as any fx,daystate, etc, yes the metal work is different shades of black, but thats the only negative I can give, I've had the r ten rifles from the mk1 onwards, and although I know there were some problems with the regulators on the early ones ,I was lucky I've never had a problem at all, I've had five so far over the last 11 years, and I still love the latest version and I hope the rifle stays in production for years to come.

This is cool! I recently managed to fix my .177 cal Soviet-Era Baikal IZM-38P. Nothing comparible to the stuff featured here, just a break action springer with dovetailed-in iron sights, but can still get pellets moving at a fair clip, around 750fps, (from what I've heard) and does actually have compacity to mount a scope. With a more powerful spring in it, it would probably become a quite viable little gun. I honestly didn't realize they went this beyond, well, toys though. Very interesting!

Great video and interesting opinion on the .177 FAC. I think it makes for a compelling argument for accuracy and power, so much so I have ordered one for my collection. And very nice shooting by the Mrs's. Wow, she is very steady and calm. That was all wind creating that tell tale spread in her group. Love the show and thanks for the wonderful content.

Hi I love your channel, I just thought I’d say that the Wolverine 303 you have., if it was me & I wanted a air rifle in .30caliber I would trade in the Wolverine 303 & buy the new FX impact mk3 & you can buy the barrels/liners & probes/magazines for .22 .25 & .30 & it’s a much lighter & compact rifle. I have the FX wildcat mk2 atm but in the new year I’m going to be buying the FX impact mk3 in high power in .22 & .25

I shoot my FX Impact @ power #8 and someone has said that's about 14 lbs feet. it does make a crack noise though that's breaking the speed of sound but it doesn't do that all the time it very's on what pellet weight of course usually it's JSB heavy's

Great video👍. I’ve just got my fac .22 impact. Wow, what a great rifle 👍. Pest control is amazing. I didn’t fancy a 22 lr or 17 hmr or the likes ( each to their own I guess) I like how quiet the air rifle shoots compared to a powder burner. I’m still in the process of working out which slugs work the best from it. I’ve done some tuning which was easy with the impact 👏👍. I know they’re ’marmite’ rifles and similar results can be achieved from many other brands. I love mine so far. I also shoot my sub 12 s200 for rats,,,, can’t fault it. It was a bit loud with the standard moderator on it, so I’ve now a hw moderator which is a massive improvement 👍. Keep the fantastic videos coming, keep safe 😉

17 wsm is a good round, unfortunately I have only seen savage rifles chambered for it in the UK. But I agree that If a .22 air is all the power you need then you are better off with it but if looking for something like a .303 I would go for a .22 lr or wmr or .17hmr providing land is approved. for them.

I particularly love how responsible you are with the gun safety and thorough you are with the reviews. another great video again Andy, i own a bsa mk2 vc in 22 sub 12ftlb as we cannot shoot fac in channel islands and my gun is superb and accurate ,but it seems like the manufacturers like to set their guns a bit on the low side ,closer to 10.5 ftlb as my mate found out after buying 2 new guns lately . they all fit anti tamper devices to them and expect you to abide by the law and check you are not over the limit, but if you are or, more likely are to low, you then have to start tampering with what might be a gun still under warranty and then that warranty becomes void. maybe that could be a subject for you to review Andy.

regarding his opinion on the spanish limit of eighteen foot pounds being all around a more practical limit than twelve foot pounds i totally agree and would like to add one other point and that is that an eighteen foot pound limit would reduce the need to have an fac gun of thirty to ninty foot pounds for a lot of people

please help me with something....if I understand correctly in the UK an FAC is required for anything that produces more than 12 fp. however in Canada we simply use velocity - meaning anything above 500 fps is considered a firearm which requires a gun license. My question is why some Air Arms have FAC and others don't. Example - the Ultimate Sporter in a .22 should be able to shoot above 12 fp yet some of their Ultimate Sporter .22's are listed FAC and others aren't. Are these "non FAC" .22 sporters not shooting above 12 foot lbs? what gives? thanks in advance!! Great channel
@AAROnair
@AAROnair 3 жыл бұрын
companies produce sub12 ft-lb guns and FAC versions of the same thing often, to meet both demands. using velocity as a guide does seem strange, when a feather at 500 FPS isn’t going to do a lot of harm, but a 50 grain .30 pellet at the same speed will do quite a lot of damage! stay safe. Andy

Great to hear with such clarity Andy during the intro of your past associations with certain businesses and your previous links with them and the new greater focus toward absolute independence. Hopefully all those sending items for you to review in future will be completely aware of this fact. No holds barred reviews are refreshing to say the least. It was lovely to see your wife taking a slightly more prominent role and shooting in the video also. Perhaps it would be particularly nice Andy to properly introduce her to everyone in the next video, instead of people having to refer to her as Mrs AAR! Your video editing was even more slick than usual and seeing the split screens was very modern. I hope at some point that you make the shift to 4k as that's always the way to go. Exciting times for you both no doubt. Keep up the great work.😃

Great review as usual Andy. Really appreciate your time you and your wife put into the show. I have a FAC regal also. Had a absolute nightmare with it. Once i obtained my licence i sent it to Daystate to be uprated to 40ft. When i got it back from Daystate the problems began. The magazine didnt index properly, the rifle inconsistent with accuracy, the bolt would lock out, pellet fussy etc etc. To top it of on 15 shots befoe refilling. I felt like crying after spending so much money on it. I was going to give up then i decided to take it to my local gunsmith. John from Caunton was amazing. He found the probe had been bent. The bolt was loose and has changed the power to 28 ft after changing all the O rings and servicing it (rifle only a year old) Now it shoots like a dream and the only problem is i haven't had chance to zero it since the lockdown. Can't wait to get it set up so i can get out on my 100 acres of permission 😃

Have a think about dropping the power down to 22 or less you'll get more shots & have a wider choice of pellets. !8 is really nice in .22 too out to 60 yards & great accuracy.
