People just don't understand how much Almost Live and The 206 were part and parcel to the NW Renaissance of 90s. They were a freaking treasure and a satirical document of the era. And that Space Needle prank is STILL funny....

Watched this from Vancouver every Saturday night. As a frequent visitor to Seattle I felt like I was in a secret society that talked about Kent hair regulations, knew Pike from Pine, and high-fived white guys. Lightning in a bottle, some shows were often funnier than SNL that followed them.

At its peak, I laughed more in a 30 minute episode of Almost Live than I did in a 90 minute episode of Saturday Night Live.

You are NOT WRONG about that!! A.L., at the time, was tighter and funnier than SNL... I almost always howled watching Almost Live, while that Saturday night show would often be a disappointing waste of an evening.

My favorite sketch from "Almost Live" was the character Sister Windy. It was a lampoon from the PBS series of the nun Sister Wendy who would explain different kinds of artwork and history. Sister Windy would make fun of Seattle architecture such as the downtown building with a big dome on top. Those sketches were hilarious. They need to put this show on DVD or Blu-Ray because they are still funny.

I am still looking for the clip of Peter Jennings blowing a snot rocket all over his leather coat, that the Almost Live crew used for taping audience laughter. Funniest thing I have ever seen, and I cannot find it anywhere on the internet.

KING-TV was making budget cuts in 1999. I'm actually surprised Evening Magazine is still going. Local shows are surprisingly expensive to produce.

King 5 refusing to release a dvd box set is clearly the primary catalyst for the deep decline of Seattle. (Not even via a streaming service.) Why does King 5 hate the people of Seattle so much?

I loved that Pat Cashman was the background voice for Bill Nye for many seasons of his show. When ever my brother in law (Bill) is doing something silly, I am saying maybe out loud, “uh, Bill?”

Like other commenters I enjoyed it more than SNL. I think one difference was the runtime, with AL being 30m and SNL being 90m (minus commercials for both of course). Even if you factor out SNL's musical numbers, that meant that you had to go with your best material, and there was no padding out a clip. This gave the show more energy than SNL had.
