If you are using the free version of resolve I don't think it can handle 10 bit, if you are going to be color grading things 10 bit will help get better result. The SOOC continues to be surprising bad..maybe KZbin compression? Either way it seems like a camera that you are going to have to continually monitor/adjust to get any kind of decent results.

Yeah I agree. SOOC is rough. You’ll see a modified SOOC in tomorrows video. It’s better but still not great. For photos it’s fantastic and I do like the look of the graded footage at the end.

Just being brutally honest, I’m not really seeing the appeal, especially relative to the price. Unless this is really a stills camera for you that you’re trying to squeeze occasional video out of. In which case, I get it.

Great series of videos. Dumb question, but What is the benefit of shooting in L-log, if you then need to do all that color grading afterwards? Better dynamic range? But can you explain to me what that actually means (in simple terms)?

More dynamic range but in this case I can modify colors. I’m still figuring it out

In simple terms, if you are shooting a wide dynamic range scene with lots of highlights and shadows shooting log will allow you to retain a greater amount of that information..it helps you from having completely blown out highlights or completely crushed shadows. Shooting in LOG can be a challenge and every camera is different. It also allows one to add a personal touch to video colors, much like a raw photo. Color grading can be tricky/time consuming/frustrating, LUTS help get you in the ballpark and you can just make SMALL adjustment from there.

@@sc1 Yes RAW photos give you much more flexibility to edit, it's recommended you not edit Jpegs (but you can a little). Cameras are so good these days you can really recover A LOT of shadow with the raw files. I usually shoot raw and Jpeg for when I feel a good photo just needs a little extra or can be saved by using the raw file, but in most cases I just use the Jpeg.
