@@80Mrblueeyes People have often low expectations when going to this region. All because it is not in the west of the Netherlands and it's right at the border with Germany. There's so much to do there that it is quite surprising.
@OMGWTFITSJESUS7 ай бұрын
@@80Mrblueeyes probably because netherlands is quite different in all over the places. Like u cant compare west netherlands with east netherlands and u cant compare the east with south or north either. people always seem to focus on west netherlands when they wanna visit netherlands, and i understand them but west netherlands in my eyes is far from what netherlands actually is. in my opinion to figure out what netherlands really is like is when u stay as far as possible away from western side of netherlands. If u ask a guy from west side of netherlands will tell u a different story. which might be tru or might not be tru. but majority of netherlands will agree with me that u wont see much dutch culture in the west side of the country, rest of country isnt really promoted though

Both the local government (gemeente Enschede) and extra in storage fireworks products in a heatwave summertime gave the final trigger for this disaster. I feel most pity towards the firefighters but also to the many people that were simply not allowed to get their pets. I thougt this was common knowledgde but apparantlty not: the firework warehouse and business (not factory) was long build before the houses were built close next the warehouse wall. and began doing its business in a save manner. there was even a brick and mortar wall surrounding the largeish area such a warehourehouse would need and it was agreed upon that not new homes were to be bult too close to that area. But over decades and decades that hapened anyway. That is incompetence on the cityplanners and complacaincy on the warehouse company that saw tis happening over the many years. I specifically went to Uiversity Twente to go get an the proper academic degrees in chemistry and physics so I woud then be able to do actual research and develleopment for better quility fireworks and that would also include relocating certain buildings and changig procedures. however I was studying on that specific hot sumer day at my parent place as well as builiding a more streamlined computer based fiiring system tat could be synced with audio or lasers etc. I had helped the local pyrotechnician, great guy and old fashioned a mentor of sorts, and helped him setup up and perform the firework displays on the campus several times per year. There used to be a semi adequate eucation to become pyrotechician in Utrecht (not the ui, but the one below that). Several years earlier the last actuals good quality firework factory that made mostly fountains was pressured to shut its business. After that debacle the whole politics and police did not know what to to do. Easiest and wisest was to look at how fireworks are dealt within surrouding countries such as Germany. There is a healthy pyrotechnics educatios system in place, good regulations, it is part of the culture that also the factories and pyrotechnicians are respected. Enschede could have taken this as a chance to self improvement and built a better and healthier industry, like offering Pyrotechncians education programmas with some financial fraction to be set to the persons who were greatly affected in the city part - Roombeek. At first t was promised that if you lived there before the explosion and the devasting fires that destroyed so many properties of a not too wealthy section on the city you would be able to return to the same house or close to it for the same price as before. That got eroded quickly and when a new tenant would move in they suddenly had to pay the over the top prices that only the ultra rich could afford. No affordable houses were built a new there. The trauma of the event itsef competes to the trauma of the aftercare and broken promises. I obviously could no longer pursuit my fully coherent plan to become an academic Pyrotechnician, but luckily I found Nano materials science alsmost as interesting so i went in that direction. That day it was a hot summer day, but it was it was a dark day weeks and months in the Neterlands. My sincere emphaty to not only the actuals ppl who died direct or indrect because of that explosiom and fire but also to the many more misplaced families and animals that also were were hurt. Enschede had a great fire a century before this event and nearly the whole city was leveled. Commitees and elbow grease rebuilt the city to a better standard including every socials class. there is a bronze plaqette on the big market area near the Hema describing and remembering that century old disaster. Readig that compared to the plaqette dedicated to the Firework waehouse disaster leaves a weird taste in the mouth. Still I love Enschede otherwise this would have not stirred so much emotions from all that time ago.

But I never saw you get on a bicycle - so it did not seem at all like the Enschede that I know in love. Next time you come, I recommend that you hire bikes and then you’ll be able to get out and see the real city. The countryside around is also wonderful! And on the dedicated cycle paths, you don’t have to fight with noise in motorcars. A final recommendation is the Marktplaats - so many terraces surrounding this Market Square. And it’s so peaceful without the pollution from motorcars.

This reminds me, once on a trip with two friends we were really hungry and drove into some random village for the local Chinese or something, and the only thing there (Zeegse in Drenthe) was a Texas steakhouse. Those friends are food snobs and all the lighting was with huge American flags, I got a bit worried because rural Dutch doing Americana are usually also into dirt racing, tractor pulling, Dutch language country, competitive belching and hardly ever are accumstomed to the finer things. Inside the waitresses had stetson on, jeans, prarie boots, the portable card reader in a pistol holster, peanut shells all over the floor and beer came in half a liter jugs. So we got even more worried. But the rib eye and the tenderloin were excellent (food snobs don't order T-bones), the rest too, absolutely great. Turned out the place had a repution all the way up to the city of Groningen. Never judge a book by it's cover.

worked as a mechanic at the time of the explosion and remember the busses of people and body parts being rushed to the hospital. It really gave me some sad memory watching this. But still thanks for the videos

Just to let you know, iwas a bus mechanic on duty at the time, and the busses were sent in to bring people to the hospital. Next days i had to change the blood stained seats with new ones. Brutale thinks

For me, being Dutch, Enschede is mostly known for the 2000 firework disaster.

Look at those sandwiches, amazing! Y'all (you all, how do you say that) are making progress in Dutch! The hardest thing is the 'sch' in, for example Enschede. Michelle you tried, and said ensKede. Did you know that in WW2 the best way to know if others were foreign and not to be trusted (not Dutch) is asking: can you say "achtentachtig kacheltjes"? (eighty-eight heaters). Pronounce was key.

@@WoutervanJoolingen I think it's actually the official old dutch medical term... I have a book from 1920 about the human body, they always use that word. My greatgreatgrandparents got it when they married, I think in those days it was possible for married couples to know next to nothing about their bodies and they had to read a book to learn what to do 😅😅😅 I guess they figured it out, or I wouldn't be here
